Already missing the "Session Review" summary page

I’ve been using WaniKani for like 3 years and have never felt the urge to post until today. I must agree with my fellow users here. In particular, the percentage correct was an absolute Critical barometer for my success. I generally try to keep that number up above 80% at all times. If it’s below that, I chill on new lessons and just focus on reviews until I can get that number back up again. Is there any way we can get that feature back sooner rather than later? Huge problem for being able to track progress. I only use the “practice recent mistakes” as a “warm-up” session so I can do better during my reviews to keep up that percentage!!

There is, but I suspect that the WaniKani dev team is unlikely to do it. The simplest move right now, and the one that would mostly likely be to their best business advantage, would be to roll back the new deployment so that they’re using the version they were on before the update. Then, go back through the changes they wanted to make, and make them slowly, and featurally, rather than as one big monolith.

However, given the way they’ve been responding in the update thread, I don’t see this happening, unfortunately. That said, the way this was handled caused me, as a developer myself, to actually write out a lengthy, analytical message to the team…

The summary page is so good for reviewing items I got wrong and just admiring the 100% when I get no wrong answers. Now it’s all gone

Were these changes just introduced without consulting current users’ preferences beforehand?

I didn’t like the initial review screen that popped.up.when you started a session. But the summary review is sorely missed.

Please reconsider.

If I have to choose between session timeout and summary page after the reviews, I will always 100% choose the summary page. Sure, the timeout was inconvenient, but if removing it means that a core feature of the study process is gone, than I will navigate around the timeout forever.

Yes! It is actually absurd that a new update serves only to dwindle our productivity

yes please bring it back!
After each lesson I used to screen copy the new items into my notebook (with translations) to keep track of my learning.
Now I am lost. (Lucky I’m nearly finished though :student:)

The summary page was really helpful for me to know if I was going too fast or slow with my lessons, if the % I got wrong was higher than usual for example I would know I needed to slow down and revise. Now I can’t really see that information, or even ride the high of getting 100% correct.

+1 bring back the session review page please! Or at least allow us to choose whether we want it or not.

The summary page was one of the most useful features of WaniKani. Not only it was a good place to analyze your mistakes, it also gave you a percentage of what you got completely right (both meaning and reading) which I always looked at to track my “success”. Please bring it back!

Obviously not a great alternative to the Summary page, but you can use the WaniKani Heatmap script to see all items you’ve reviewed on any given day. Hovering above any item shows the meaning and readings.

Hi

My first reply on WK message boards! I came to post just because I miss the Session Review page very much! It’s awesome to see an accurate percentage correctness (the % at the top right lies to you) and also to see progress on promotions/demotions. Especially the Enlightened that either go to Burn or get demoted to Guru.

I hope you bring this back!

Agree!! Bring it back!

Not exactly. The top right % gives you per question (i.e., meaning is counted separate from reading), while the now-missing summary page gave you per item (meaning and reading combined).

I’ve tried using the new UI a couple days to give it a fair chance and I really miss the review pages. It’s particularly frustrating when doing extra practice because I usually drill that until I get everything to 100% before I do my reviews. I was helpful to see at a glance how close to 100% I was, and anything I missed was was all in a group so I could easily review them before I did another practice round.

For general situational awareness, I also found it very satisfying to see the summary of items that were moving up and down in the SRS. Without that feedback, the app feels even more grind-y than usual now.

In addition to going over my mistakes, I also like the summary page to look at my percentage. If I ever find I’m dropping below 90%, I want to know so I can consider if I have to slow down. Its harder to keep track of this without the summary page!!

Omg thank you! I guess we’ll have to depend on user scripts for this feature from now on… Wanikani really let me down this time
