Welcome to 葬送のフリーレン ・ Frieren ・ Volume 7 Discussion Thread

We read volume one as part of the Beginner Book Club. This is a spin off club to continue reading the series together.

All the discussion will take place on this thread and I’ll post a participation poll each week as we start the next section.

Chapter 58

Frieren’s observation about Serie failing frieren and passing fern is interesting. I wonder if there’s a real reason behind it or its just because she doesn’t like frieren.

Old man passed too hooray! And nuts girl but I think you could tell she would so she can pop up to do something important later.

I feel like half of Serie’s decision are based on who’s up for whacking people

Week 4 - Frieren Volume 7 - Chapter 61

The volume so far

This week, I got back into the series by reading chapters 59 and 60, realizing that I got no clue what is happening because I don’t remember who any of these people are, rewatching the last episode of the anime, then realizing that it doesn’t even really matter because all the side characters are leaving.

Not much happened in 61, so it was a gentle start back into the story for me. Apart from learning that the magic-blocking crystals are a thing, it was mostly the 3 main characters bonding again after spending time apart during the magic test arc, I guess. Simple enough, even I didn’t manage to get confused by this.

I was really hoping that they will travel with Denken to his village (it’s all to the north, isn’t it?). But, well, maybe they’ll meet again some of them in further volumes…

This week, I got back into the series by reading chapters 59 and 60, realizing that I got no clue what is happening because I don’t remember who any of these people are, rewatching the last episode of the anime, then realizing that it doesn’t even really matter because all the side characters are leaving

To be honest, I’m also forgetting some characters. It took me a while to remember Sein, when he got mentioned

Also, I wanted more details from the ceremony where Serie gives each first class message a spell. I was curious what they all wanted

When I heard they were travelling though a forest called Sanft, I feared this might be another wholly peaceful, slice-of-lifey chapter. But at least we met some old aquaintances and it kept things from getting boring.

I was expecting a statue of Himmel, too, I even turned back to see what the elder said because I was sure he even said Himmel! (But he said 勇者, not Himmel!)

Poor Stark , he’s so excited to polish the statue and Frieren is like, no need we’ll just do it with magic
