I take my notes somewhat differently, but if you scan through them, it might be good Vocabulary review…
I like to know how common a word is, according to Lorenzi’s Jisho (he ranks them on frequency of occurrence in Anime, and frequency on occurrence in News; I don’t know how)…
And I like to know which level of Wanikani that I had supposedly learned a kanji… And whether it was a Wanikani vocabulary word that I should have been able to recognize. So I make notes and have links…
It’s a lot of notes…(This is because I don’t use a yomitan type reader assistance thingie)
But I like that the vocabulary shows up in blue on my list, so it’s easier to scan for familiarity; and to quickly review without SRS…
It’s basically copied from my Study log, but now you don’t have to go fishing through those thousands of entries… Lol

Love Stark the warrior getting taken down by the old timer at the start of the chapter. I may be old but I can still teach you young-uns a thing or too…
I like the idea of having a lifespan so long that you can say things like - “I might drop by and visit so and so and hang out with them for a decade or so”
Also liked Stark’s training this chapter - this panel reminded me of Goku’s training in early Dragon Ball:

Hey folk, finally got my act together and caught up to the group after falling behind during the Christmas season. Maybe its just because I’ve read all the these Volume 4 chapters in quick succession, but I’ve been particularly enjoying this Volume! There’s been a lot of implicit and explicit character doubling, which I think is an interesting choice. Chapter 33 was very touching.
And to keep things learning focused, I had not seen (or maybe just never noticed) the きっかけ grammar point that was used repeatedly in Chapter 33 and I see is in the title for next week’s Chapter 35. It seems simple enough to understand, although the construction used in Chapter 33 seems different than what bunpro has. I’m guessing the use in the manga is probably informal?
Just finished chapter 33 as well. Really touching indeed.
It’s so nice to read people’s reactions to the story and characters, and to see the little picture clips!
When I read Micki’s comment, I bobbleheaded so much! (this means "nodding repeatedly in total agreement with what is being said → I totally agree)

Chapter 34
So firstly, mean old lady sure made them work hard for the information she had to share! Especially since she seems to have been quite close to Gorilla in the past. She seemed to have some useful information to give them in the end as to where Gorilla went to after he left her. I didn’t get a sense of how long ago he had left her, it felt like this could be quite old information. And テューア is quite far away so it’s not going to be easy for them to head that way and follow his trail. I wonder what they’ll decide to do next.
The statue was interesting. As I understood it this was a very old statue of two heroes, so old that the names have been lost to the past, despite the lady being very old looking herself. One of them looks like Kraft - the elf priest we have already met who like Frieren is crazy old. The other interestingly appears to be a spitting image of Sein, right down to the goatee. It doesn’t feel like we are going to get more answers to their story soon, another piece of information to be filed away for now in this increasingly large world/history we are being treated to.
I guess notable too that Sein remembers seeing an identical set of statues in the past that had been inspirational to him and Gorilla when they were children. The statues look the same as far as I could see, but appear to be in a different woodland location. So Kraft and his warrior companion appear to have been famous over a relatively large geographical area.

I liked how the village called her 頑固ばあさん and then in the next panel she said how stubborn she is but at the scene in the end she came across as likeable
I had the same understanding as you about the statues, how mysterious! Even Kraft and Gorilla would look the same if it wasn’t for gorilla not having elf ears. The other statue flashback was really confusing at first but I think you’re right. It establishes that they are even older than Himmel’s hero party and wide ranging. Hmmm…
The blacksmiths name was ナーゲル = Nagel (German) = nail, and the city Gorilla was heading towards テューア which is a pretty good Katakanisation of Tür (door)

Sad to see Zain go, I really enjoyed his character and how he complimented the group dynamics.
I liked the usage of 漁れる when Frieren is talking about shopping at the 魔法店. It really evokes an image of how she plans to spend her time there
