Start chapter 2. Do not enter the airport. The new quests are not short, so do the one(s) on the board and trigger the hidden one.

Side Quests and Missable Content

Last chance for 手配魔獣. Also a new quest:

 • 凄腕ギャンブラー急募

And a hidden one:

 • 選挙事務所の傷害事件
found
in the hotel. Talk to Nial and Dorothy on the bottom floor first. It should trigger when you go back up.

Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

 1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
 2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
 3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
 • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

 • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

If necessary, include an explanation of any discrepancies in the Ebook page numbers from physical page numbers. If there is an easy shortcut for some ebook versions to relate back to physical page numbers, it would be worth it to include it as a third bullet here, or if you want to use chapter page numbers instead of volume page numbers, as is the case with some manga. For example:
Example

For the Kindle version of this manga, the page numbers and the location number are always 3 apart. If you subtract 3 from the location, this will give you the accurate page number!

OR

Please use the chapter page numbers, instead of the volume page numbers. These are located in between the panels!

Discussion Questions

 1. What sentence/passage gave you the most difficulty? Feel free to request some help, or if you figured it out on your own break it down for the rest of us!

 2. What was your favorite new vocab word from this week’s reading?

 4. What do you think Kevin’s up to?

 5. Did you succeed at the gambling quest?

 6. Initial theories for the hidden quest?

Side quest week

Aww, surprised we don’t get to actually move on to the next area yet. It’s probably good I have your helpful guides on what to do because the game really goes “Hey let’s get out of here, right now!” and then adds a quest on the board and a hidden one. Would be so easy for them to prompt you to check out the board one more time. They do at least mention Dorothy going back to the inn so if you’re inclined to explore that one isn’t SO obtuse, but still. I feel like it would be a shame to miss the quest tied more heavily into the election; I’ve wanted to see more of that plot. And I mean yes it’s part of playing carefully, if you’re blind, to check the board one last time before what feels like a point of no return… but I feel like there’s an element of wanting to be able to trust games, like if the devs clearly push you in this way that it’s fine to leave now, it should be fine to leave.

That casino really needs better security. I don’t wanna know what a real world casino would do to Olivier following a move that obvious, haha. The character interactions with the gambling quest were fun though. I like that they made that a pretty big side story event.

This confirms for us that the friendly priest (I had to look up who Kevin was from your questions lol, my brain hadn’t registered that) is at least seemingly not with the Ouroboros people, but is very plot important snooping on them. I mean there ARE ways it could be contrived that he’s spying on the two of them but is still, I dunno, higher level Snake-man, but I’m gonna take it at face value for now. Enemy of my enemy, but I still feel like he has some plot going on, which we may end up not liking? Hard to say.

I’m pretty interested to see how the guy getting attacked in the hotel plays out. Surely there’s no way the suspect they have there did it, but I don’t feel like I have much to go on yet to find the real culprit.

I don’t know if I’m just dumb but this hidden quest is incredibly tedious…

Oh it is soooo tedious do not worry you are not dumb.

Ok I finally found the right dialogue sequence. This is the worst Ace Attorney scenario I’ve ever seen.

Wait officially we’re meant to only begin the hidden quest, right? I didn’t proceed in it at all past being told the setup.

Now who’s the filthy preplayer

I’m talking about the hotel investigation optional quest. I don’t think you can even pause this one?

Oh, “trigger the hidden one”, I didn’t pay attention to that part.

Well GOOD LUCK.

Yeah that’s what I mean. I dunno about interrupting it but I think we’re meant to do everything else and then activate it and save and quit right here. The instructions are just “trigger the hidden one,” there’s a question only about “initial theories,” and the screenshot is where you get dumped in the room when you start it.

Oh yeah you posted again right as I was finishing this. Well yeah.

Yeah it clicked when I saw the screenshot, I don’t look at them before I’m done usually to avoid spoilers and we don’t usually stop partway through a subquest so I didn’t even consider I shouldn’t finish it.

It’s really good you’ll love it.

I’m probably going to have help in the next thread as my reward for not preplaying :innocent:

Now you have me so curious what is going on in this quest haha

Week 9

It’s a bit funny that the tough ouroboros guys were scared away by potentially being seen by some drunk/drinking kids, but if it saves our definitely normal priest friend Kevin then I’ll overlook it  Oof that phantom thief though. His classical speech gives me a bit of a headache, and it’s negatively affecting my opinion of him. Though to be fair, my opinion wouldn’t be great otherwise because he’s been creeping on クローゼ. I hope we get to beat him up eventually.

I confess I had to look up a guide for the poker quest because my game had a graphical error where the card textures were super zoomed in and unreadable. It was either cheat, or guess the answers before messing with my mods and replaying from the start in English. I chose cheat for the sake of focusing on the important stuff: 日本語を読む.

It does make me feel better that Scherazade also blatantly cheats in order to win against the guy. I knew I chose the right teammate  In any case, it was interesting to see a little Japanese poker/gambling terminology!

Agathe just goes Super Saiyan and intimidates the other guy into folding.

That sounds much funnier than what happened in my version. Does Olivier do something weird, too? In mine he folded after an unremarkable match, with him and shera talking about reading reactions to know when to back down afterwards.

I don’t remember exactly but I think he does the same thing pretty much. Then he cheats while Estelle plays.
