Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
  • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

If necessary, include an explanation of any discrepancies in the Ebook page numbers from physical page numbers. If there is an easy shortcut for some ebook versions to relate back to physical page numbers, it would be worth it to include it as a third bullet here, or if you want to use chapter page numbers instead of volume page numbers, as is the case with some manga. For example:
Example

For the Kindle version of this manga, the page numbers and the location number are always 3 apart. If you subtract 3 from the location, this will give you the accurate page number!

OR

Please use the chapter page numbers, instead of the volume page numbers. These are located in between the panels!

It's peak

Alright wait a minute guys; I think the combat is getting good. The second miniboss for me here definitely went differently than I’m sure it did for anyone else, cause IIRC you all don’t even have “bad attack” as a turn modifier, but using that on a team up attack meant I could inflict all the lesser enemies with various stuns to make that fight manageable, which already felt nice.

The robot fight though… after the experience I had in FC, I was scared lol. But that was actually really fun. I beat it first try, with a few scary close calls. The thing is I actually spent a lot of the fight with a couple people getting locked down with stun, and I could see how that COULD probably spiral into a really bad time… but the numbers felt tuned about right that we always had some lenience to play around it; you see things getting bad and can react a little before they get truly dire. Olivier having an AoE heal craft on top of クローゼ’s all heal S-Craft helps so much. And I feel like I have way more options than before. Yeah I hit some S crafts for sure, but the spells were just as useful, especially my big pricy AoEs that could pretty much manage every add at once but ate up half someone’s MP pool. Real resource management across the fight too!

Turn order stuff too, before you could only cheat someone forward when you had an S-Craft to interrupt, but now choosing who to team up with is a form of doing that as well. With that I’m making more decisions based on exactly when people can go and when they last went, which combines with arts taking up time, adds a little more to craft point management, all feels like I’m thinking harder and incorporating more info on these decisions now.

Everything feels like the tools have finally developed where it clicked into this being way more fun than any fight in all of FC I had. I hope it’s gonna continue this way; it’s possible they ramp it up to annoyance again, but the gameplay always ranged from annoying to ok for me on FC, I loved it in spite of a lot of the fighting, and I’m excited to have had so much fun in a fight now.

Somehow I was just blind to that torch that was out so I spent a few minutes, but otherwise the riddles were pretty simple.

As for the story, I always find 怪盗 types entertaining, and love that he had a little dynamic with Olivier. This game is gonna be me a series of me pointing at the screen going “it’s that guy!” every week. And bringing back the mysterious riddle man, who I had forgotten about by now, is great.

I’m pretty hyped to see Tita, grandpa, etc again. We already got our hot springs scene but we’ll be back in that area. Can’t waste the opportunity, right? How many times can this series do hot springs scenes?

真の美--- それは

School riddle is pretty easy, at least compared the sewers. Just walk randomly. Actually, it’s not too hard to spot too.

I find second miniboss harder than the main boss. Survived anyway with Croze’s S-craft, the new cheat heal.

Dorothy isn’t supposed to down to the lowest floor. Not through all those monsters without a bodyguard. Or did she track the party all along? If so why wouldn’t a pro like Agat notice?

But flash attack is dangerous to try anyway. She could have be killed on the spot. (But 悪運 is the plot as always.)

Lastly, truth about poltergeist is a surprise, but it’s something about the story anyway :black_circle:

Oh yeah I was using the “hug right wall” strategy but at some point coming out of a fight got me turned around and I missed the critical path that way. In the end it worked out though, a little extra wandering made me run into a shining pom and I killed it this time! Great rewards: leveled everyone, got a good chunk of every color for orbment stuff, and an accessory that blocks a few statuses.

Love is in the air

I just realized that the dream team is back together: this is the party I used for the final dungeon of FC.

Hey we have another cocky womanizer who doubles as cat burglar. And they didn’t even go for the tired trope of characterizing him as French!

Ah. Oh well.

The rivalry between him and Olivier is pretty entertaining. We also finally know who was that thief who gave us the enigma quest last time. Also I remember the statue standing out when we last visited the old school building, but there was nothing to do with it. I appreciate that it all seems well planed ahead instead of retconning stuff left and right.

I met the guy he impersonated at the mayor’s manor in the Manoria’s inn a couple of weeks ago, he was drunk because he got fired. It’s cool that we have all these small details too.

I agree, I enjoy the combat more than FC so far. We have a lot more combat options which makes it more satisfying to strategize. I also realized halfway through the fight that I could interrupt his huge AoE attack because it counts as an Art, after which it became trivial. He ended up summoning one of these small mounted knights just before dying, meaning that I spent the last few turns of the boss fight chasing this midget around. A bit anticlimactic.

The dungeon itself was pretty intricate too, although it’s still just a very rectangular maze with corridors and rooms containing chests. I wish they would come up with more interesting concepts. I could forgive such barebones environment if it was procedurally generated, but it’s not! You don’t even have to rebuild the environments this time, you reuse FC assets all over the place, use that time to build better dungeons! Your average ASCII roguelike does more with less!

Crazy that you’re sticking to this sub-optimal strategy instead of the obviously superior “hug left wall” method.

Overall it was a very enjoyable chapter. Still no clue where the overarching plot is going, and I’m not sure I fully care, but the sub-plots and characters are fun enough that I don’t mind too much.

NOT ENOUGH!

I’m surprised to see that Olivier and Croze are tagging along if I understood correctly? Are we going to accumulate party members this time around?
