We’re going to stop just before entering ヴォルフ砦.

Side Quests and Missable Content

There are quests on the board. We’re doing them this week.

  • 盗まれた看板
  • 特別訓練への参加要請 (You will not be healed between battles, you fail if don’t win the first two, the third is for BP.)
  • 新型導力銃のテスト (spoiler]do an extra 5 battles for more BP[/spoiler])
  • カルデア隧道の手配魔獣
  • トラット平原の手配魔獣

There is also get a bonus to the main quest if you talk to the guy in the factory basement, at the entrance to the tunnels. Name of ルーディ.

Steam version only(?), there’s an achievement for talking to this one NPC every time his dialogue changes. There is no in-game reward for doing this, but he’ll show up in later games. If you want to talk to him, he’s on the roof of セントハイム門.

Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
  • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

If necessary, include an explanation of any discrepancies in the Ebook page numbers from physical page numbers. If there is an easy shortcut for some ebook versions to relate back to physical page numbers, it would be worth it to include it as a third bullet here, or if you want to use chapter page numbers instead of volume page numbers, as is the case with some manga. For example:
Example

For the Kindle version of this manga, the page numbers and the location number are always 3 apart. If you subtract 3 from the location, this will give you the accurate page number!

OR

Please use the chapter page numbers, instead of the volume page numbers. These are located in between the panels!

Nice to catch up with Tita and grandpa again, just as I mentioned looking forward to. Another set of riddles was fun enough, it took me kinda long to notice I could interact with the clock for some reason, but I did immediately think of the computer for that clue, and the smokestack stuff wasn’t hard to find either. Even accidentally talked to main quest bonus guy without thinking about it when looking for the person underground.

Honestly not a whole lot to say? The military quest was nice enough, getting to meet back up with another familiar face. The gun one was kind of tedious since they want 15 fights and limited it to that one area, would be better if I could just passively get in 15 fights while doing the rest of this week’s stuff. None of the fights felt super notable, running around in every direction of this region took me a little while, but I cleared it all easily enough. Just a bit of a filler session, getting my bearings back for this region and the quests weren’t BAD but mostly unremarkable.

Oh right, I liked how hard they broke the text formatting for this emphasis, haha. That’s the highlight. Like I said last week, Estelle and Olivier are even more fun to watch interact now that the teasing is mutual. I wonder how some lines work with Schera around, because Olivier has a tendency to also tease Agate and just get immediate threats back.

Week 11

I found 怪盗’s insulting message in カペル very amusing. I went into the workshop looking for the clue, went straight to カペル’s room, then did a whole circuit around the building talking to NPCs before I realized… oooh the clue is probably in the computer data, not on a card in the room. Because of that, I ended up reading every お久しぶり conversation with Estelle from various NPCs we did quests with in FC. So like, half the npcs in the building.

I wonder what kind of useful thing are Tita and the prof are prepping for us. An anti-orbment field like the first gospel’s side effect, now that the prof knows more about it? An anti-anti-orbment field? Some third thing? Probably.

Was the NPC with dialogue changes the same guy we went through a somewhat complicated series of events to get a secret book from during the queen’s festival? I don’t remember names but there was a guy hesitating to talk to the girl he liked and we had to wait for the girl to circle 3 times or something. Seems like it didn’t work out D: Which is too bad because his name reminds me of antoin the cat.

There’s a lot fewer threats, that’s for sure  She’s more like new Estelle in that she’ll blatantly ignore him when necessary, but will also tease him back other times. There was a line near the time he joined that gave me a vague impression that she currently knows more about his background than the player does, too.

I was happy to be back in Zeiss so I decided to speak with basically all the NPCs in all locations which made this week pretty damn long for me. I’m happy to see how I’m progressing Japanese-wise, I’m at a point where I can understand basically everything without any lookup. The words I don’t recognize I can figure out through context cues, it’s not like the dialogue is super complicated. I’m happy that I played well rested though, I feel like it would have been a painful week to rush through.

The hardest combat for me was probably that trapped chest in the underground, although those carnivorous plants were no joke either. I appreciate that, while all the environments are pretty much completely copy-paste from FC, they at least came up with new enemies with detailed sprites.

I also explored the local tower for no particular reason. Some decent loot in there.

I did the military training quest last, which means that I was very much OP by that point and destroyed everything. Now that I remembered that I can just interrupt arts, those AoE spells mean nothing to me. The reward accessory that boosts attack and CP gain (at the cost of reduced defence) was really OP in FC, I wonder if it’ll be as good here. I put it on Agathe, we’ll see. Now I just need the other accessory that passively gains CP every turn and I can just spam arts like at the end of FC.

I thought the guy at the top of the military checkpoint was about to commit suicide. Still not sure what exactly he’s trying to achieve though.

Yes it was certainly more enjoyable than the previous riddles in Zeiss! Maybe a bit too easy, but I’ll take it, there was enough to do this week…

I took a picture of the same thing, with the superior Estelle portrait:

I like Olivier’s “mmh, I feel like you put extra emphasis on specific word just now” tonge-in-cheek reply.
