Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
  • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

If necessary, include an explanation of any discrepancies in the Ebook page numbers from physical page numbers. If there is an easy shortcut for some ebook versions to relate back to physical page numbers, it would be worth it to include it as a third bullet here, or if you want to use chapter page numbers instead of volume page numbers, as is the case with some manga. For example:
Example

For the Kindle version of this manga, the page numbers and the location number are always 3 apart. If you subtract 3 from the location, this will give you the accurate page number!

OR

Please use the chapter page numbers, instead of the volume page numbers. These are located in between the panels!

Discussion Questions

  4. What is your theory regarding the earthquakes?

  5. Which party member did you choose?

  6. How much difficulty did you have with the parts quest?

Yay!

To be clear this continues directly from where we left out in the last thread, not after the end of the chapter? I personally didn’t play the game at all in the meantime.

Yes, this is still in Chapter 2.

We're here

Well, this time I just didn’t bother turning on the text hooker because doing so is a mild inconvenience, and I think the couple lookups I did on my phone were less a problem than doing it would’ve been, so that’s a cool thing about playing something like this long term. Apparently I’ve learned something, sometime.

Earthquake investigation, good stuff, potential for this to actually be a weapon on a pretty scary scale if it’s strengthening. I think based on the party interface if I didn’t misunderstand, I was only allowed to choose between Olivier and Kloe with the others set? Wasn’t a super easy choice but I like Olivier too much to not bring him.

I found 6 parts with the scanner and was confused about the last two. I think I tend to run to the guides a little too fast at times and maybe need to work on that habit but it depends on the game. Was curious so I searched, at least I used a JP guide lol. One problem was that I just overlooked a part in the 3f room in the absolute corner. But that also spoiled the fact that the cat took one and I think that’s kind of a clever trick for them to pull on us, might’ve preferred to have to have to think about that. Oh well. I’m glad the cat came back in a slightly important role.

We are so back! Good to see you posting again, Reb. I appreciate you and the work you do so so much :heart_hands:

I did play a bit ahead since I thought the next thread up would start at Chapter 3, but stopped since the discussion in the home thread a couple weeks ago. From what I remember:

Week 12

This week covers the investigation at セントハイム門 and ヴォルフ砦, right? If so, special shout out to the thirsty kitchen maid who followed the mysterious, sunglasses-wearing bad guy. I found that conversation very amusing. Also learned the word 獰猛 from her, which my brain will now always associate with describing hot men in sunglasses  Every time it’s come up in my anki deck in the past few weeks it’s “oh yeah, that’s sunglasses guy”.

On the parts search quest: At first I tried to do it without help, but after enough “it’s nearby” messages I thought I was doing something wrong and had to look up what to do exactly. Turns out you have to be exactly on top of them to actually pick the parts up, but I also ended up spoiling myself that 7 parts could be found between the two rooms. The アントワーヌ one at least was easy enough to find on my own, since the quest-giver explicitly mentions him.

I picked Olivier over クローゼ, although after fighting a bit with Tita in the party I’m ready to trade her back in for our purple haired swordmaster. The stronger monsters in this game are one-shotting her constantly! I need to figure out a formation that doesn’t have them all beeline to her, oi.

That was a nice week to come back to, pretty chill.

I enjoyed the detail of the waitress being into “bad guys”. Girl, run.

I managed to find them all by systematically scanning every portion of the floor but it wasn’t a very fun mechanic. The “close by” messages are not super helpful. I was hoping for a gauge that would update in real time or something like that. Anyway, it’s not a big deal.

I took Croze mainly because I felt that Olivier and Tita overlapped too much (both having ranged weapons) and Croze’s S-Art can be clutch against bosses.

I wanted to add Kroze instead of Shera, but actually the Evo version doesn’t give me full party choice, it only lets me choose between Olivier and Kroze, as Daisoujou said. (I’m guessing Shera is fixed because I chose Shera over Agatto previously)
Did you non-Evo players have full party choice?

At least I now have an all-female party for the first time ever in both games I think, which is neat. (Ester Shera Tita Kroze)

Haha, maybe you can associate it with chest hair like a bear, and bears are fierce. Or maybe it’s better to just forget about weird tangential mnemonics and make a reasonable one. Or maybe not
(There’s a saying in German that’s literally “I have 3 hairs on my chest, I’m a bear”, which I think is supposed to be a joke on men overplaying their masculinity or something. Oh well. Not sure anyone wanted to read this, but I had nothing else to say for this week :D)

Only one more week and I’m caught up to the club :eyes:

Ah, just the one choice for everyone, yes. I’ve just got everyone in the list partly to help obfuscate future choice, partly because it’s easier to have one less thing to edit week to week.
