Home Threads 空の軌跡 // SC

This week’s stopping point is after reporting the results of your investigation to the guild. It should be nighttime.

Side Quests and Missable Content

Remember there’s free healing in your house and the sewers if you need it. Also, a lot of people would like to chat with Estelle now she’s home.

There’s a hidden book, found in the building next to the bar, talk to セーラ.

These four quests are available for the whole of this chapter.

  • 空に消えた婚約指輪
  • 釣り場探訪
  • エリーズ街道の手配魔獣
  • ミルヒ街道の手配魔獣

For the second one: you need to find 5, extra BP for 6. One won’t be available until the end of the chapter. You do need to actually catch something at each spot. While you’re doing this quest, keep an eye out for a パールグラス. You’ll need one later.

The other three we’re completing this week. Depending on the order you do main quest things, you may finish the top one afterwards.

Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
  • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

If necessary, include an explanation of any discrepancies in the Ebook page numbers from physical page numbers. If there is an easy shortcut for some ebook versions to relate back to physical page numbers, it would be worth it to include it as a third bullet here, or if you want to use chapter page numbers instead of volume page numbers, as is the case with some manga. For example:
Example

For the Kindle version of this manga, the page numbers and the location number are always 3 apart. If you subtract 3 from the location, this will give you the accurate page number!

OR

Please use the chapter page numbers, instead of the volume page numbers. These are located in between the panels!

Discussion Questions

  1. What sentence/passage gave you the most difficulty? Feel free to request some help, or if you figured it out on your own break it down for the rest of us!

  2. What was your favorite new vocab word from this week’s reading?

  3. Was there any passage that you found particularly intriguing? Did it resonate with you (either positively or negatively)? Was it surprising? Offer any insight or new perspective? Was it just beautifully written?

  4. Did you visit Estelle’s house?

  5. Which NPC conversation/reunion was most interesting?

  6. Thoughts on this fog?

The Fog (1980)

Exactly the chill little cool off week I expected. I know in-universe they mentioned the monsters getting stronger but it’s kind of wild returning to our little hometown and seeing the enormous towering beasts all over the roads now.

Quests went well enough, going through the whole tower was a lot to ask but we got some decent equipment out of chests. I found that boss warning chest but level 90?? I didn’t even try after I saw that. I like the バカップル we do the quest for anyway. I also made sure to talk to the little girl in the town who was patient zero for Estelle x Joshua fever, and she’s pretty much figured out the whole plot of this game so good for her; that’s a 2 game streak.

Otherwise pretty lowkey, I only saw 2 fishing spots so far and didn’t get the fish mentioned from either. I have so much bait I’m not allowed to select, I wonder if the rod makes a difference? I still only have the starter one because I’m not a true fisherman at heart, only pretending.

The trip to Estelle’s house was nice, got some backstory on Schera which I appreciate since, when not picking her, it feels like I’ve barely ever seen her across these two games.

It’s cool that we’re moving into something dramatic so quickly, the fog is… I’m gonna go with stealing people’s souls. That sounds most exciting and crazy. They did mention 魂 and whatnot.

It does, but the beginner rod is enough for this.

I hate that fishing minigame. I don’t know if it’s because of emulator latency but I find it so ridiculously hard. It’s not even good mechanically.

Then again I’m a big fishing minigame hater in general.

The timing is pretty damn tight feeling for me on real hardware too.

Yeahm it’s not great. There are a couple tricks to it. One is to click on the sound cue, not the visual cue. The other is to click constantly and slowly space them out. (Those aren’t plot spoilers, it’s just if anyone doesn’t want the tip)

I have been getting one or two fish :fish: in every possible fishing spot before anyway, and wasted many lures. Unfortunately, this week I met the fishing guy last (not like the quest times out).

竹竿 seems to get a bite easily. I don’t have many lures for the basic rod.

For this week

I’ve yet to go into the forest south to Bright house. Whirlwind monsters feel too troublesome.

I also wasted quest time going to the top of tower, noticing カー and shiny dot, without picking an object. So asked the questmaster and go back again.

Why did people get ill? Why only some? Is it the bewitching bell :bell: :sparkles:?

Week 21

I ran around talking to a lot of NPCs for the reunion dialogue but my favorite has to be with conversation with ルーク. Saying the fog is fine because it’s perfect for the duel he’s demanding, ayyy. Excuse my heavy paraphrasing!

There were a couple moments that made me think this chapter’s ouroboros villain is going to be connected to Schera, in particular the bell moment when she acts a little off. Every agent so far seems to have a beef/fixation with one or more of our party members and this time it’s her. Someone from her old theatre troupe? On that note, I also enjoyed the flashback sketches of young Estelle and Schera this time around.

On the fishing mingame, I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite implementation ever but I’m not having too hard a time with it. Like polv, I’ve been doing some fishing at most every spot I come across if only to see what’s different about each. My main gripe is that I have no idea what I’m building toward with all these various fish I catch! I thought maybe they’d be used in cooking but so far I haven’t found any fish recipes. No パールグラス for me yet, either.

Oh you’re persistent, if I had to make 2 trips I think I’d decide they better start saving to buy a new one.

I also almost missed the ring because I thought we were supposed to find a way to catch the crow somehow.

I did beat one of the trapped chests in the tower, although it was hard. Not sure if that’s the one you’re talking about, I think I missed some loot.

I also didn’t get the パールグラス yet. I looked up a guide to see where the fishing spots are, can’t be bothered to try every area with water just in case it has a spot. I probably wouldn’t have found the one in the sewers randomly anyway, unless the main quest intend to lead us there at some point.

It was nice revisiting Rolent. I’m amused that Mistwald is an area where there isn’t mist.

Also this grate will pay off one day I’m sure of it:

It’s the one on the alternate path to the top that will specifically warn you when you try to open that there is a fight incoming at level 90 and give you the chance to decide if you’re still doing it. Assuming that’s not an Evo change I guess.

I haven’t see any chest warning so far in the original version, anywhere.

yeah that sounds like a mechanic added in later games that’s gone back to this one
