hello- it’s my first post~
i just leveled up to level 7 today! ･:*+.(( °ω° ))/.:+ after snooping around this forum and reading all of your posts (AND after getting my ominous level up email), i think it would be helpful to have a partner to study japanese with. i don’t get many opportunities to apply what i learn, and i feel like being able to give and receive help to someone around my level would be very motivating!

a little of background:

  • i started studying japanese near the end of last year, around september i think?
  • i’m currently still focusing on n5 and a bit of n4 grammar and vocabulary, and i just use wanikani as a supplement
  • i’ve also been studying french; even though i’ve been studying it longer, i’m more excited about japanese despite having less experience.
  • i live in the US on the east coast, so a time zone not far off from mine (EST) would be ideal!
  • i’m only self studying for now, though i may get an online tutor or register for online classes in the future

an ideal study partner:

  • 13-16 years old
  • wk level 5-9 or around jlpt n4-5
  • i’m most active on instagram, so if you have one as well that would be nice! if not, if you have any other social media lmk and i’ll let you know if i have it as well!
    (as you can see i’m not too picky tbh ww)

*also, don’t be afraid to be casual! i feel like language partners who aren’t always talking about language are bound to be closer friends and last longer, plus i want to set a comfy environment where you can be yourself!

I’m 18, level 60, and aiming for N1…

Some years ago there was some sad predatory behavior story… WK eliminated personal messages on the Community forums as a result… With this background, your wording is likely to raise eyebrows.

:sweat_smile: I hate to be that person, but I would just like to recommend not sharing your age on public forums especially when you’re on the younger side. Also, hopefully that isn’t your normal/ personal instagram account, but if it is I would recommend making an account with no personal information that can be used just for studying Japanese or a discord for a similar purpose. I hope this doesn’t come across poorly I just get a little worried when I see stuff like this. Congratulations on your level up!

ahh i see what you mean! before, i hadn’t had my age on this post originally but felt that with the age point explanation was needed, sorry :sob: and thank you for the suggestion! i should make a new account. :heart:

And I do check every ideal study partner requisite but I don’t know if I’d want to, mostly because of time although it would be very benefitial.

Oh! Please don’t apologize you didn’t do anything wrong. I’m just the worrying type :sweat_smile: . I also, agree that it would be kind of hard to include the age point without your actually age. I really appreciate how receptive you were to my suggestion and at least if it’s a separate account even if someone looks it up for non- Japanese learning reasons they won’t be able to find out anything about you personally, which should make it safer if you do need to post your age in the future. I hope you’re able to find some great language partners!! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
