Damn it we finally get a dish-named chapter but I can’t find vegetarian みりん干し recipes online. If I had noticed ahead of time I would have made some myself.

I’m pretty sure they’re portraits of Shuro’s family line, with Shuro’s grandfather on the right, his father next, and himself in the third position, the purpose being to establish the family’s naming scheme - specifically, that each man shares a kanji with his father (and presumably the other comes from the mother). Which leads us to the fourth panel, a hypothetical offspring of Falin and Shuro. Painted in a Western art style.
But yeah, why the joke appears in this format, and why it’s so abruptly inserted into the conversation, I have no idea.
By the way at some point the mishmash of Japanese cultural references and stereotypes in what was until now mostly a Western-style fantasy setting got me thinking “damn, that’s a bit much isn’t it? Feels a bit disrespectful almost”. And then I remembered that I was reading a Japanese manga.
Not completely related to this chapter actually. Don’t remember if it was explained before, I wonder why do parties come to this dungeon? Like, Laois’ came (back) to revive Falin, but otherwise, why do they come in the first place? The rewards? Killing the red dragon?
I didn’t understand everything once again. I noticed the common kanji in the names but that’s it, thanks for explaining @Belthazar (is your mom Belle and your dad Balthazar btw?)
By the way one thing that confuses me a bit is that, in this introduction page, I assumed the hooded figure to be the 魔術師. As far as I’m concerned it looks like an old wizard but we now know that it’s in fact that fairly young-looking elf we met last volume? Or are those different characters?
We do? I have no idea, didn’t think they were the same. The young-looking elf has been around for a while (during the king’s time and so on) and is very fishy but I don’t know that it’s the 魔術師 (but then again I could have missed it, I don’t understand much)
