Tried to decipher the handwritten text and then decided that life was too short after all. (did get some things, there’s a main town, a main street, a maze and its entrance)
Ooh so that’s how you get out of the dungeon when you’re done!
Anyways what was the conversation about between タンスさん and the other man, seems maybe important? Something something should the elves or the dwarves inherit of the maze? And there is a hidden magic of invincibility in there that they want to retrieve?
Looking forward to hearing Kiki and Kaka’s backstory in the next chapter! (if that’s what’s going to happen)
It explains that it was just a small fishing village before the entrance to the dungeon was found and it got flooded by adventurers. And also that the island once had various names given by elves, dwarves, humans etc… but it eventually came to be known simply as “The Island”.
I’m pretty sure that’s the first time we’re being told that the dungeon is on an island by the way? The author seems to want to develop the lore.
It didn’t understand 100% of the dialogue but I think Tansu says that the true value of the dungeon isn’t the gold, it’s the fact that it seems to be imbued with a spell that renders it (and presumably the big boss?) eternal. Breaking the secret of this spell is vastly more valuable than anything else, and he intends to leverage adventurers like Raios-tachi to get to the root of it.
As for the geopolitics of the island it mostly flew over my head. I just got that dwarves have turned the underground into swiss cheese. I didn’t get the bit with the elves and their “letter” or whatever.
I enjoyed the journey to the “lost and found” more.
Also I just noticed that every chapter name after this one in this volume is the same. I sense a theme.
Me trying to read something I last read like a year ago lol
Da Elves
The elves basically said the dungeon is our heritage, give it back. old gnome says what cheek, they stole it from the dwarves anyway. island lord says we were granted the island from the elves, so we can’t just ignore them. this dovetails into the invincibility discussion and tansu says if you have that power then you hold the cards, they’ll have to treat you as an equal.
Oh totally thought this would be about Kiki and Kaka. Completely forgot about the chapters’ name.
But can’t complain, getting to the dragon is nice too!
p.32, can’t make out the last character for sure, ワーグ or ワーゲ or ワーダ? Didn’t find a definition for either of them on Jisho
Seems like it was about time to discuss how to defeat the dragon, now that they have almost found it!
p.48 was touching, with saying thank you to everyone. Definitely giving it a very dramatic vibe, might be all over soon now, one way or the other (ignoring the fact that I know that there are 10 more volumes to come of course)
Nice cliffhanger!
I keep wondering how the author can keep this interesting for that long. Especially given my concerns for the pacing of manga I’ve already expressed in the Tongari thread. We’ll see I guess, for now I’m really curious to see how this Farin arc will conclude.
Ah. Well, I would generally argue Dungeon Meshi avoids that, except a lot of people kinda get hung up about the dish-of-the-week formula that the manga starts off with despite it being, like, idk. a handful of chapters really. I dunno. There’s definitely series which spin their wheels but something focused like DunMeshi is not one of them I think. Like, I have a friend who I generally agree with tastewise except she thinks this series is one of the most boring things on the planet and I absolutely do not see it that way. So I dunno.
