Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent spoilers. Some folks are reading JoJo for the first time and have never watched the anime either. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.
Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
Any information from later in the volume or series than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections. For other Parts, please label the Part before the spoiler, for example “Well we know 2 [character] survives because they’re in a later Part”
Instructions for Spoiler Tags
Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labeled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).
Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:
Example
This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.
The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.
This is an example of the “Blur Spoiler” option.

CW: gore more specifically terrible things happening to a baby
Comprehension questions for Chapter 36: 遥かな国からの3人・遥かな国からの3人 その 1
What does Adams accuse Poco of?
How is Poco’s sister according to Adams? What will she do to Poco when he gets home?
Cool that Speedwagon is wearing Zeppeli’s hat now!
Also, Speedwagon seeming to be the narrator at the start of this chapter (which isn’t the first time) is making me wonder again if maybe he’s been the narrator all along?
Loitering around late at night
Very mad at him for being out late, and planning to punish him when he gets back
The strangers are Tonpetty and two of his disciples! Zeppeli had sent them a letter telling them about what’s going on with the stone mask and asking them to come help
Seems like he’s trying to prove that everything will go just as he said? Like he kept his promise to not hurt the baby, but the baby was still killed by their mother, which seems to be the last step to bringing the entire town under his control within one night.
Fantastic on the rest and omg I can’t believe I missed the hat. I was trying to keep an eye out for it specifically too lol
But what does he suggest is better to do to the woman?
What do you think would have happened if (answer to previous question)the mother and child both had become zombies?
Is it the last step to bringing the town under his control? Between the actual situation and the previous situation, what is the difference in outcome?
JoJo’s not going to beat any plot hole allegations. It was written on a weekly deadly for about 20 years. If that’s a deal breaker, no worries. Everyone’s got limited time and has to decide how to spend it.
nah like ive seen bunch of clips and i loosely know the storyline, i just uhm… didn’t like the unique art style when i was younger… now i don’t quite mind but yk, my jp lvl is pretty low.
only game I’ve played in jp was p5t on my xbox
it was an, experience, to say the least
He suggests that it’d be better if both the woman and her baby willingly became zombies, and I’m guessing if that had happened, it would’ve been like Dio said and they would’ve been able to co-exist without one eating the other?
So I guess he’s also trying to make a point that everything bad that’s happened (turning into zombies, and the baby getting killed) was by the villagers’ own choice?
It seems like another thing that had to happen was Zeppeli dying. And then Dio says that everything happened faster than he initially thought, but that the outcome was the same.
Yeah, I think that’s exactly what he was going for. Suffering together would have given them a happier end rather than the mother sacrificing herself.
I hadn’t considered that line of thought, but I think you’re right, especially given that they leaned into that perspective in the musical.
I had previously thought of it more like him comparing the two to his own situation with his mother. She sacrificed herself to Dario for his sake but he still ended up getting bottles thrown at his head so often that he became good at dodging bottles as a child.
I couldn’t figure out what I was forgetting yesterday, but I have now I’ll try to have the chapter up today and then do the reading challenge thread afterwards too.
No worries! Hope you’re doing okay with the busy-ness!
Chapter 38
They want to kill JoJo. I guess they’re bloodthirsty.
Dio says it’s because he didn’t want to kill JoJo himself because they grew up in the same family together. I have a hard time believing that’s really true, since that hasn’t stopped Dio from trying to kill JoJo before… I think he might just be seeing if he can disarm JoJo a bit by bringing up something sentimental here? And maybe he didn’t deal with JoJo directly before because he wanted to first focus on amassing more power by taking over the village
JoJo also has no more sentimental feelings left that hold him back from killing Dio.
He asks where Zeppeli is. We can tell he’s purposely riling JoJo up because he talks about him in such a flippant and disrespectful way (and he clearly knows that Zeppeli is already dead)
He thinks he has the right to fight Dio first because he was close friends with Zeppeli for 20 years. I don’t know if that necessarily gives him more of a right for revenge though. I think it would’ve been more strategic for him to hang back more since he’s less familiar with the ongoing situation and Dio’s abilities. And it’s not like JoJo doesn’t also have a very strong reason for revenge.
I spent the weekend meeting up with a friend as my last (only?) vacation of 2024. It was a wonderful weekend honestly.
Chapter 38
Ayyy, I see your vampire/zombie pun there
That’s an interesting way of phrasing it. I had assumed that the 家 would be house and not family. You have a great point though since George wanted to raise them as brothers.
I do think it’s a bit important to note though that Dio says raised and not grew up. As a murder and sociopath by the age of 11 or 12, I think he only physically grew.
SPOILER FOR THE END OF THE PART I really wonder here if Dio believes himself to be lying but is unwittingly truthful here.
You have a great point. With what he says next about Zeppeli, he’s definitely trying to make JoJo emotional at least.
That could be
I don’t know… He’s sentimental enough to plan on burying him rather focus on killing him
Yeah, I agree. I think it also implies that Zeppeli didn’t mention that Dio killed JoJo’s father and caused the destruction of his family home lol.
I agree especially since JoJo knows well that Dio’s always got some trick hidden up his sleeve
Dire’s face while Speedwagon was giving a 2 hour monologue on why he’s getting killed instead of helping (he missed the rest of the story and expected the rest to step in to help)
