Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.

past-Verb ばかり (N4) - ばかり is one of those words with many meanings, but this one following a verb in the past tense is to indicate something has just happened.

Flashback mode
That was 2 month ago, right when I had just started 4th year.
It was an old book that had been left in my father library.
Right when I ended up opening that book…
That’s when my “day after day” card search began… (“daily card search” sounds to mundane )
And this week again, what a cliffhanger !
This week felt much simpler. Lots of greetings and basic character introduction.
Also, first week had archaic japanese and second week had rough male speech and kansaiben, while Yukisato and Tomoyo speak “clean” Japanese.
Tomoyo is indeed using やる, あなた、and a long "おはようございます”. She must be from a rich family.
This week I took a more laid back approach, taking in what I could and doing vocab lookups only if I was totally lost. I managed to get a good chunk of what was being conveyed which I was really happy about. Can’t stress enough how much it helps to be able to come to this thread when I’m done and read your translations @simboubou . So many times when I read your translations and then go back and look in the book, it feels so obvious and I don’t know how I missed it the first time (Which I guess is a good sign?) Hopefully as time goes on my own translations will be more accurate too!

This is a good sign indeed, it means nothing in the grammar was totally new to you, and that a somewhat ok comprehension is within reach
Note that I’m not always 100% confident with some nuances. I may sometimes be far off.
I misread page 22 as “because this Kaiju ate her breakfast in 5 minutes”, but indeed when I look at it again it’s 食える as opposed to 食った. That’s what happens when you gloss over things too quickly! I appreciate your translation, thanks.
Also had some thoughts on page 23 and 24!
Page 23 note
I would translate that last sentence as: “It’s hard to believe that he’s the friend of my savage brother… after all, he’s such a sweet and lovely person!”
Page 24 note
I’d break that sentence down like this:
朝 → morning
なかなか → really
起きて → waking up
こない → does not come
って → quotation marker
So I read this sentence as: “In the morning, waking up really doesn’t come, I heard.”
Or in other words “you’ve had quite a lot of difficulty waking up in the morning, I heard.”
Didn’t realize the thread got posted early! I’m not at my computer so I just read through my low-res manga scan without the vocab list help or any of the tools I’ve picked up to assist. I am familiar with the story but nonetheless I was pleasantly surprised how much I was able to parse.
Small victory: it is getting a lot easier to read and remember the pronunciation of the names!
Now I’ll just have to do a second/third pass through when I’m on the computer to double check all that vocab I missed and then try to make sure I actually understand it!!
I think the important thing to understand when reading the japanese here is the role of くらい Your translation make it a bit less literal (the "to the point_ / “so much that” is more implied), but it works and sounds better in English.

Hum… I think it’s just a てくる form. Maybe we’re overthinking this:
起きてくる = to wake up and come (or something like this, the てくる form is kinda hard to translate).
It’s just put in the negative form, with an adverb なかなか and a quotation って。
So apparently Sakura oversleeps and they wait for her longer than usual in the kitchen ?
Ok all done for this week! Thanks @simboubou your work really help. I tend to decipher a couple of pages before checking your translations to “tune” my comprehension.
Kero and Touya’s various 大丈夫 conjugations, I am having a hard time literally translating. I get the sense that the overall sentiment with kero’s something like “ah, there she goes again rushing as usual”, and with Touya’s it is perhaps a sarcastic “could you be any later?”. I don’t understand how the だいじょうぶかない with the －かない ending, and the だいじょうぶだろーが with the -だろーが fit into these seemingly sarcastic statements. Is it a sort of “everything is alright (ironic)/it would be good if you could (ironic)” statement?

why is 食 read as く rather than the typical 食べる I would expect to see?
Taking a break after trying to thoroughly translate and digest pages 21-23. I have been using @dfinger 's study method for this week, which they demonstrated in the week 1 thread. I am doing it the old school way with pen and grid paper. It sure is time consuming but it’s really forcing me to break stuff down and see which parts are the ones I struggle with. I felt like I had a pretty good grasp when quickly reading through the first time, but now with breaking all the grammar back down I feel like I don’t know anything again!
I’ve recently watched oosaka ben videos, and they say 食(く)える instead of たべる, specially man talk this way. What confuses me is that… the one who is expected to talk with oosaka ben is kero… BUT the clamp girls are all (or some of them) from oosaka, so maybe is that? The other possibility I’m thinking of is, that I vaguely remember that in standar japanese 食(く)える is another way to say eat, but just more rude, that’s why it’s often used by males.
1-I am also a bit lost with what that means, if someone could clarify, I think だろー it’s like でしょう、 but why that が??
2-I would also like to know how sakura is using なんだけど, I read it is used when something it’s to say after that, like expecting an aswer, but sometimes she uses it in situations when I wouldn’t expect an answer but being more like an afirmation sentence… like when she presents Tomoyo to the reader. That confused me
3-And lastly, I don’t quite understand what といっても means, it’s seems to be mostly used at the beginning of sentences… In my mind it’s something like “even if I say that” but yet… when I see it in sentences seems a little bit weird, can’t grasp it completely

Here she is talking about Kero, she says it’s not a doll, it’s a living being, and then she goes といっても, wich I understand like even though it’s a living being it’s not a cat neither a dog… my translation of “even though” seems not acurate, because a cat or a dog it’s not opposed to a living being so it just seems a llittle bit off…
Here I understand んだけど because then you are intrigued by what kero is so it’s expected that question of “then what is it”?

here again is used together といっても with んだけど, are their use related?? here I don’t get the といっても either cause she says I collect the clow cards, even thoug I say that they are not normal cards. Again, the cards being special it’s not opposed to the previous sentence of “I collect some cards called clow cards” so I have again that feeling that I am missing something in the interpretation
I guess theんだけど makes sense because she is saying something misterious wich you would expect a question after that
Strictly speaking, X といっても Y means “even if I say X, Y”. Similar to English “that being said,”
But it may be simpler to just translate it as “but”, since ultimately it introduce some unexpected information.
“It is alive, but it is not a cat or a dog”. “It is alive. That being said, it’s neither a cat or a dog”
“I collect Claw Cards, but those are not ordinary cards”. I think you had it backward in your translation.
Here, she says she collect cards. We may think that she is collecting Pokemon cards. But no, it’s something more, something different. So, “even though she said” that she collects cards “those are not regular cards” (and thus it’s no ordinary collection)
