Is the title of Chapter 37 ポタリング? And does it mean “pottering”?

Page 59

  • Can anyone help with もうひとっぱしり!. I have no idea at all.
  • 俺らもそろそろ帰るかー, “we are also going home soon”
  • なにをいう - 何を言う - “what did you say?”
  • まだのる = まだ乗る - “I want to keep riding”
  • もういっぱい乗っただろー - “you’ve already ridden enough”
  • とーちゃん仕事しなくちゃなんないし - “your dad has to work”

And then the real killer line:
とーちゃんはしごととじてんじゃどっちがだいじゃなの
とーちゃんは - dad + は
しごと - 仕事 - work
と - and?? (could it be or??)
じてんじゃ - bicycle
どっち - which (short for どちら)
が - が particle
だいじ - 大事 - important
なの - question
“Which is more important dad, work or bicycle?” !

Thanks for any help anyone can give!

ポタリング
bicycling around aimlessly; taking a long comfortable bicycle ride
From English “pottering”. Welp, that one’s new. :joy:

Should we also go home soon?

What are you saying?; Say what?

ひとっ走り: spin (as in ‘take a car for a spin’); run
“All right! Let’s take this for a spin now!”

That is correct!
“Between work and bicycles, which is more important for you, dad?”

“So, what what was your dream?”

とーちゃんがしごとする!
“Dad is going to work.”

。。。いつも通りじゃん
“It’s always the same, isn’t it?”

  • Is いつも通り a set phrase meaning ‘the same’?

ちがう!
“Wrong!”

いつもよりちゃんとしごとしてた
“You’ve been working hard more than always”

  • Can anyone help me here, I’m lost with this one!

とーちゃんいつもちゃんとしてませんか
“Why not always work hard with me?”

とーちゃんはすごいがんばってるとおもう
“I think, really keep at it dad”

ありがとう
“Thanks”

Thanks for any help anyone can offer!

As always; as usual.
But not necessarily a set phrase.

通り the same status or way
何時も always; usually; every time
The same status or way as always/usual.

You can use other words like 計画通り, 文字通り, 約束通り. :stuck_out_tongue:

That is great! Thank you so much again Kazzeon!

You could also see it less as that she agrees, but that she’s trying to make him think that she agrees to console him, while also really thinking that but it being a little late to come off as sincere.

She's like

Oh, no! Daddy’s sad. :hushed:

Added to the fear that she might have just called her dad lazy! And the desire to get out of that one! So many mixed up emotions and meanings! The more I read Yotsuba, the more impressed I am with the skill of the artist, to get all this in the facial expressions! Thanks again Kazzeon!

Yotsuba’s just great. I laughed a lot just reading this few pages.
I’m finally on a little break from work, so I’ll try to catch up. Shouldn’t be that long!

Thank you for always asking questions that make me pay more attention to stuff. :stuck_out_tongue:

Are you still going for the N5?

Thank you! Passed it (by the skin of my teeth) in July. Aiming for N4 next July. I also wish I had more time for Yotsuba. It is still too difficult for me, but I just love it so much!
