If it helps the english translation has it as “seems boring” so I think the seems stiff/ seems rigid translations people mentioned are correct.

One more vote here for the adjective かたい with そう to mean ‘seems かたい’! That’s how I took it when I read it.
My method right now is to write down every word I don’t know on a sticky note and make flashcards afterwards. I’ve found it really frustrating in the past to have to stop constantly and fumble around with phone/computer/dictionary/whatever in the middle of reading. This is working okay so far!

So I’m making flashcards now, and as part of that I usually take the sentence the word is in, use that as an example, and come up with an English translation. It’s good practice and can help with measuring actual comprehension! But I’m not sure how to translate Akari saying「侑もいい加減決めたか？」(pg 5). I’m thinking it’s along the lines of “Yuu, have you picked a club too?” but not sure of the meaning of いい加減 here.
I think my issue is that いい加減 has two definitions that are at odds (irresponsible; perfunctory; careless vs. reasonable; moderate) - stuff like that usually trips me up.

いい加減 is actually better thought of as a grammar concept as opposed to vocabulary. いい加減にVする refers to “finally doing (something)”. So when her friend says “いい加減決めたか” she’s basically saying, “Have you finished deciding yet?” In this case, the に is left off because it’s casual speech. いい加減 also conveys a sense that something needs to be completed soon, so in this case, that 侑 needs to come to a decision soon.

Would it be okay if I post my translations here? I’m translating the whole book and there are quite a few times where I’m not confident enough whether I’m grasping the actual meaning behind a sentence or not, plus I’m sure it could be helpful to everyone who’s reading along.

If you do I’d recommend putting the translations behind spoiler tags or hidden sections so people can translate the original text themselves before seeing your translations.

I’m enjoying my re-read so far. Taking it slower and making more effort to look up specific phrases I don’t understand instead of being ‘oh yeah I get that no need to slow down’ lol
I do get unreasonably excited when I come across a new word that I just learned on WK. One more word I don’t have to look up

@IntrepidFox You might want to add a schedule for volume 1 to the OP. If I remember correctly, book clubs that do one thread per volume tend to also include quick-links in the OP to the post that starts each chapter’s discussion. That way people know where to go to find (most of) the discussion for a given chapter.

Did I read correctly that it is only available in physical copy? I created an account on amazon.co.jp and it indicated there was a kindle version, but when I switch to it, it says that it is not currently available on the right. Was wondering if that was just me or not.
Getting Kindle books from Amazon Japan is a bit more difficult and can involve extra set up (you need a japanese address I think), but if you’re alright with using a different service you can get it on bookwalker and either read it in your web browser or download their reading app.

You need to set an arbitrary Japanese address and maybe set your region, and you might need to use a VPN the first couple times you buy something. But once you have everything set up, it’s easy to buy the kindle version on Amazon.
