Also, when did Agathe overhear the brim hat(s) calling Koko「希望の子」? I flipped back through this and the last volume and I only found them referring to her as「例の娘」.
Are we supposed to assume that “Mr. Cat? in the Hat” kept monologuing while Agathe followed him?

@footnote I think you’re right, I went back through all the exchanges between them and I don’t see this term mentioned at any point. I suspect the author made a mistake and we’re not really supposed to read more than that into it.

I assume she is following him and Yuuni. He uses the term when he first sees the group at the end of chapter 26.
Ah I knew the term came up before but as far as I can tell never in the presence of any of the girls. It’s possible that it is a well known thing within the magic world and Agathe pieced it together too I suppose.

Chapter 28
I read this yesterday so let me kick us off! Firstly, a great mysterious opening page. Who is the character in the library - and who is the cat? It looks a lot like the furry that has been causing all the trouble recently. Perhaps a glimpse of their backstory?
Next a great double page spread for the chapter title page. I loved this depiction of ココ face to face with the dark witch version of herself.
The story was good fun this week. I enjoy these moments when the girls join forces to solve a problem, thinking what magic they know and how they can apply it. That was quite a fun page with all the spells shown together.
The solution they’d come up with seemed so ingenious I was sucked into thinking it was going to work. Instead ココ is back in a tricky position for the end of chapter cliffhanger. She now has to find a way to save three friends without using forbidden magic…
That was fast

Almost certainly yes, after all he muses about body alteration. And the cat does look like him in the previous chapter.
I wonder if we’ll eventually be told a little more about why it didn’t work, beyond 禁止魔法とか.
Also, it’s a bit hardcore but couldn’t you just damage the skin where the circle is located? A good gash should be enough to break the spell, no? It’s a bit dangerous but less so than the alternatives so far…

I interpreted this as a line from the unseen part of their planning session. Tettia & co reason that if Tettia could make a “cloth” sheet of sand for her tent spell, she could also make a “board” sheet of sand to trap our boy Yuini in. Similar shape but less flexible and all that.
Ok, I considered this but the resulting shape is not really board-like, so that seemed like a strange thing to say. I forgot about the tent though, that does add up.

This could probably only be confirmed by asking a native speaker what they “feel” when they think of「板」but based on what you get in a Google image search, I guess it is the most probable word to use when you want to speak about a thin but stiff sheet of material, which is what Tetia conjures up.
This way they only had to tweak the softness of the “sand-cloth” instead of creating a wall which might require a completely different magic circle for all we know.
Oh look I’ve caught up to the current volume. Never mind that I’m just starting while you guys are about to finish
Chapter 24
I thought the answer to the riddle was compassion and understanding.

On page 12 we see 永却, yomitan didn’t recognize it, and it didn’t show up in jisho, but when I typed the furigana えいごう, it came up with 永劫, which would make sense here
On page 29, I don’t get why Coco is suddenly talking about the library and inversion magic. Did she want to undo the melting of the statue people, because she didn’t realize that she actually helped them?
There’s a similar mistake on page 29 with 均衡 spelled 均衝. I wonder how these errors happen given that you wouldn’t be able to easily type this with an IME. Maybe they have to OCR the text at some point?

Not the melting, them becoming statues in the first place. I think she’s saying “don’t kill yourselves, there may be a way to undo your curse”. She pleads on page 30: “we may be able to help you so please don’t go [into the melting death ray]”.
