I mean, you can, it supports the artist probably, and the content is extra pages some gorgeous art. Probably not allowed to post it all here but maybe just one page is fine:
Tetia suffering an unintentional discharge of magic without even drawing a magic circle… or is the cloud a magic tool that she stores in her pocket that just decided to deploy in this instant for comedic effect?
I think it’s a magic tool Tetia invented and is still working to improve. She explains it a couple of pages later. She draws the magic cloud over herself and Koko for comfort and privacy.
This chapter
I can’t figure out what the Brotherhood is trying to accomplish with this. They seem to have plans for Koko specifically but make no move to separate her from the others, and what’s the point of the dragon? At the moment, it looks like this challenge is just giving the atelier girls a chance to work together and become a better team.
It’s unfortunately a common trope in fantasy to have mysterious entities doing mysterious things that don’t really make a lot of sense in hindsight when their plans are finally revealed. We’ll see if Atelier eschews this bad practice.
Also if I understand correctly per p.17 every member of this group has a different appearance so we can assume that it’s the same person who has been stalking Coko since the castle fair (or maybe even earlier)?
By the way I struggled to understand what Agathe was saying regarding the cloud thing:
I think she’s saying that there are many methods she could use to hoist people in the air but then Tetya objects that it’s not like a futon? Is it that Agathe is proposing to cheat to achieve the desired result of napping on a cloud while Tetya wants to do the “real” thing?
人を乗せて飛びたいなら: If you want to fly people on it
雲に見える代替品: cloud-looking substitute
使えばいい: you should/can use
綿とか: like cotton
Yes, she wants the real thing. If she uses cotton, it won’t be like flying on a cloud.
The line on the previous page is related too: 上に乗りたいならもっと質量のある物で構成しないとダメね
If you want to ride on it, you need to make it out of something with more mass.
Oooooh, so I read 線 and not 綿 and I thought she was talking about using wires to hoist people up which didn’t make a lot of sense in context and made the futon reply seem completely besides the point.
Another issue is that I misunderstood 雲に見える at first because I thought she was talking about hiding from the dragon instead of it all being completely non-sequitur and unrelated to the problem at hand. I thought she was talking about “being seen in a cloud” and not “looking like a cloud”. By the time I understood that the exchange wasn’t related to that I didn’t reconsider my first translation which made this entire sentence completely perplexing.
Is that what happened? I processed it as her just drawing one picture and making one hole. A small hole that they had to crawl through, whereas Agatha was aiming for a much larger hole.
If you look at the picture where the explosion triggers there appears to be a series of small explosions so I think it means that she drew a bunch of those circles to make a human-size hole. Also in the insert where you see her draw the smaller magic circle you can just see another cropped small circle at the very top of the frame:
I saw it the same way as @simias, that is why I alluded to Riche as a “demolitions expert” in my earlier comment, since her way of digging the hole is more like a controlled blasting than the “lets blast the whole wall to smithereens” way.
I’ve turned out to be a bit of a lurker here, but I just wanted to hop in and say thank you for setting up this offshoot club - I’ve really been enjoying this manga and even though I don’t contribute much, it’s lovely to have a schedule to follow and reading companions for company.
A thought on Agathe, probably not a spoiler at all by this point but just in case
I’m really looking forward to see how Agathe’s character develops. She’s been so unpleasant to Coco and yet, I’m convinced they’re going to end up the best of friends. It just… might take a few volumes.
Thank you!! Super happy to hear that
I’m hoping that we’ll go all the way, it’s fun to read together and to see everyone’s comments, and for everyone commenting I’m guessing that there are a few people lurking but still following along which is great, so thank you for confirming that
