Obligatory hat update post

You all are catching up quickly. Has anyone’s brain melted from fantasy/magic made up stuff overload yet?

Mainly just the weird katakana names for me.

I’ve enjoyed the world building in this one. We have a reasonably big cast of characters at this point, and quite a bit of back story on our main group. The made up vocabulary is fun, Japanese lends itself nicely to this the way they kanji link to the meaning of the word. The art is still gorgeous and at times surprising!

My biggest complaint with the series is how slow the plot progresses. It’s fine when you’re bingeing, but once you’re caught up and only reading 1-2 volumes per year it’s really slow.

I still love the art of course.

I’m with you there..!

And here too

Yeah we were discussing that a couple of weeks ago, it’s certain that the plot feels a bit aimless at times, but I still find the worldbuilding solid and entertaining and I enjoy the relationships and conflicts between the characters so it still makes it pleasant.

Damn we’re really speedrunning now… I expected that of course but it’s weird seeing such a short schedule in a book club!

chapter 46

Wormie sama really reminds me of the various animal sidekicks that Gotlib would cram into his BD, most famously his ladybug:

Oh oops, I didn’t even notice it in this panel

Chapter 47

47 was a fun chapter. Like entering Diagonal Alley or Hogsmeade in Harry Potter. Loved the different magic ideas - especially the door with multiple knobs. And also that crazy game board. If I read it correctly the game is impossible to complete, as you have to climb the steps one at a time, and when you get to the top step you get sent back to the start…

Fun new word of the week:

Wasn’t sure about the top left kanji here. 恋?

Yes I definitely think so for the kanji

I regret that I missed my chance to buy the rest of the series during the 50% coinback campaign last week. With only three weeks left, I might have to pay the full price for a volume for the first time :scream:.

Ch 46 and 47

I’m a little surprised Kustas seems to have left the chair at the hospital when they left. Even though he already had the flying mantle, the chair seems much more convenient in some situations, such as indoors.

Apart from that, some nice worldbuilding snippets. I enjoyed little details like that the Great Hall organizes public maintenance work and that wizarding folks still gossip about K-dog.
And Riche invented AirTags for people…this is bound to become plot-relevant at some point.

Looking forward to see what Agathe has planned for the main event. Glad we sped up so that I’ll get to see it before I’ve forgotten that she does have something planned.

Ah sorry, I didn’t think about that. Aren’t those events happening every month? Financial reasons are also a valid argument to want to slow down, if you prefer us to wait until the next one! I don’t want to force anyone to speed up if it doesn’t work out

I did the same maths and went back to buy the last two before the offer finished. Looking back at my order history I think there was a 50% coin back offer on St Patrick’s Day last year and then again at end of April not long after - maybe timed with golden week?

I think the reason for this is because their legs have been healed by the new witch at the end of volume 8.

As far as I remember, they met the witch after getting waylaid on the road to the festival, which must have been after they’d already left the hospital and presumably the chair. The nurse in this chapter was also under the impression that Kustas left the chair behind because his friends had given him a better magic tool. Though I guess there’s a possibility that Kustas went back after getting healed and showed off his cloak as a distraction…?

Yeah, the chance that there’s another coin-up campaign before we start the next volume is rather high. I doubt I’ll have to lag behind for more than a week or two even if I decide to wait for the next one.

I wondered that, but surely they left the chair before leaving the town? And it seems he wasn’t healed when he left it.

I wonder if it was just difficult to carry and use outside of the town. It doesn’t seem his usual life is spent indoors.

Edit: I couldn’t post last night for some reason (screen kept freezing), and it looks like @Boodil has said the same thing but more eloquently.

I also thought he abandoned his chair after getting healed by 禁止魔法使いちゃん but what you and @Boodil say is also true, the timing seems a bit off.

They did establish that the chair was really awkward outdoors on uneven terrain, so maybe he did just decide to keep the wingsuit.
