A few weeks until Christmas and our manga introduces one of the three wise men!
I liked the two medical ladies. Especially the one with the short hair and the strong muscles. I like how she stood up to Rurushi to demonstrate that they weren’t going to see the sage tonight, virtually picking up Orugyo with one hand. Then a few panels later she is gently carrying the children to deposit them in bed.
I struggled a bit with this panel until I realised the word I needed to look up was はじめ! Turns out there is a meaning (d) used as 〜をはじめ - which can mean “such as”. Although I think “including” perhaps is a more natural translation here, like in the example below.
The reason for this is actually explained in the extra pages at the end of volume 5 - in short, the hat from volume 1 is Kiifurii’s apprentices hat, while this new one is Kiifurii’s hat.

Looks like I have the “special” edition of volume 6 though. I have 229 pages, will the last pages being only drawings!
I think of it as “first of all” or “starting with” which matches the Japanese structure. “The doctors in this place, starting with her, are not wizards”.

Poor wormie sama is not part of the club, he’ll have to hang out with the cute cop instead.
The sage seems goofy enough, but the chair with ram’s feet and horns just screams “evil sorcerer”…
Also, weren’t we told that large-scale landscape manipulation by magic is forbidden? So how come something like this underwater city is OK? Or is this a matter of grandfathering: “Oh this was already done in the before days, so it’s fine…”
What a great chapter! This manga is continuing to become more and more of a favourite. I love the world building, the lore, and the beautiful artwork. We had some real treats this week!
We had some great costumes. The opening pages had some great outfits, then we had those crazy Greco-Roman bathing suits. And the fantastic “evil” Koko in her black witch outfit.
I’m also enjoying the steady bonding between Koko and the others from the atelier. I liked the scene where Oru-sensei helped fine tune her magic to make the “never-going-lukewarm ice-pack” work.
I’m less interested in the magic police characters at the moment, but perhaps we need a bit more time for their characters to develop.
Uh, I couldn’t find an entry for it in my dictionary which is what made me doubt. But then I searched again just now and found it immediately. I wonder what I messed up the first time.
By the way I just noticed that we can see the deformation of the brick wall through the large bottles in the background. The attention to details in these scenes is really amazing, I’m happy that I opted for the paper version.
