So I heard this part in a song which seems to identify あめん そめん あぶらむし あべべのべで as part of a counting rhyme. It’s pretty cute and I like how it sounds, but I can’t seem to find any references to where exactly this comes from or how it continues anywhere else. Does anyone have any ideas?

According to my wife, it’s like eeny, meeny, miny, moe in the sense that it’s for choosing something arbitrarily, and the part you asked about varies based on the region and individual person. She just says あぶぶ where it starts with あーめん and just ends there.
