Hi, the audio recording for 毎月 sounds more like ばいつき to my ears. Is this just me? If so how can I reset my brain to hear it properly
Thanks

sounds that way to me too
You’re not crazy. It’s not uncommon to hear nasal sounds before “G” syllables, it’s particular to the Tokyo region and the voice actor in this website does it. However, on a word like まいつき, it does feel particularly odd, at least uncommon, to my ears. But it’s not an intentional ば sound, and more of a nasal ま.
“m” and “b” are very closely related sounds, so it’s not that unusual for the pronunciation to sound similar.
It’s the reason why words like さむい and さみしい can also be pronounced さぶい and さびしい.
That’s not literally what’s happening here, but the closeness of the two sounds led to both being acceptable in other words.
I knew about さみしい、but not about さぶい, huh.
Also kind of related, but not, my calligraphy teacher says むつかしい.
