Sorry if this is a rookie question haha… I have been doing wanikani consistently since April, and I still haven’t burned anything. I am almost on level 12, and I’ve been told I should have long-since burned items by now. I didn’t get much wrong in the first couple of levels, so i feel like at least the radicals should be long gone haha.

It’s time-based, you need to wait 6 months. It’s only normal to have burns on level 12 if you are going slow.
Assuming your average level speed based on what you said (roughly 2 weeks a level?), I’d guess if you maintained speed that you’d probably start seeing burns somewhere around levels 13-14.
Just a heads up, if you get a burn item wrong, don’t worry about it. Of course it sucks but the SRS system will take care of it in time. It just means you weren’t ready yet for that particular item and that’s a good thing, you just want to burn things that you really know.
Anyways, like the others have already said, your first burn should be right around the corner.
If you look up a specific item in the database (for example like this), and scroll to the bottom it will tell you when the next review is coming up - if that helps.

I also started in April and have close to 1800 enlightened items, but I’m not burning anything until the end of September. We should be getting our first burns at about the same time

Don’t worry. I have over 2000 in my enlightened section at the moment. I went top speed for at least the first 10 levels. At level 19, and 6 months later, I’m starting to get some burned items under my belt.
It all depends on how fast you go as to what level you will be at when burns start to come through, but as another poster mentioned, it takes 6 months for a new item to become a burned item, providing you get it right each time. You do you, the burns will come, I promise!
