I think they all accept “law” as valid meaning 
化ける. I keep thinking “Transitive, because the other one has an -a ending!” (completely forgetting that it’s 化かす, thus based on -suru, which makes 化ける the intransitive twin…). 
Hopefully writing it down here will make it just a bit easier to remember, lol.

Maybe it’ll help if you remember why you want to learn 丸ごと. Because without it you’ll never know all of Japanese in its entirety.

For a hot second it was 午 because I kept misreading it as 牛 instead, and I had to chant to myself, gun through cross is cow and gun on top of cross is noon. I guess you can say it’s high noon.
The on’ reading for sky blanked on me. I keep thinking, “Oh, it’s そら!”
And then I had to remember that’s one of the kun’ readings. I vaguely remember I constructed the legs on the roof, and then the roof started to go higher in the sky because it was avoiding something. And I blanked on that something (it was cooties, I blanked on that jeez).
I think… I finally got the mnemonic to remember this though. So I built legs for this roof to reach the sky, right? The roof is launching up when it suddenly sees Sora from KH spreading cooties everywhere. But how?? coo coo the pigeons are the culprit. How could you Sora.

I failed 文字 as a burn by typing ぶんじ probably because my subconscious self wanna experience it badly (bungee jumping, that is).
Went back to apprentice when I typed もんじ as my next guess! It seems guesses should never end up as burns anyway so…

Admittedly, it’s only quite recent that I had to consider other vocab using the same kanji to recall a reading I tend to forget.

Alternative is:
大文字 Daimonji, the Japanese word for “Fire Blast” (in Pokémon). See the animation
Ehhh?! But… but… this is おおもじ as well, yes? It seems this is also an exceptional reading since it’s also indicated in Jisho, but unfortunately, not in WK.
Haven’t played Pokémon since ever since giving up on Ultra Sun/Moon (if that’s correct) but I definitely recall some traumatic images of when Fire Blast hits.

One I struggled with for awhile is 北 (north). I could easily remember the On’yomi reading of ほく、but for some reason I could not remember きた. Until I was re-watching the first episode of Haikyuu and realized Kageyama’s school name! It is 北川 (きたがわ)!
Since then I’ve been able to remember it better and hopefully it helps someone else!

Yeah for the tricky leeches there’s really no substitute for actually seeing them in the wild. And it can be hard to expose yourself to Japanese-language material when you don’t feel confident! But if nothing else it lets me feel better about not getting the nuances right away and trusting that when I start having to use them I’ll figure it out.

The more longer the asked english word or phrase is, the more it gets annoying and more difficult for me to remember thus becomes a leech. I can remember the reading and even the general meaning easily but i get minus points (unless i had an addon) just because i didn’t add “something” in the end of “to roll” for example. But like i said, i have addon now so i can easily just retype the answer if i forgot “something” in the end of it (i count that tbh since i do know the general meaning, just worded it wrong). I know there’s a good reason to add that in the end and also you can’t just describe everything in one word but still.
Another one is 領土. I swear i always read the second kanji as 士 “shi” instead of “do” (because those kanji look so similar).

I’ve been having a hard time wrapping my brain with 年中 and 年内 regarding the meaning.
It’s often the other way around where I struggle a bit with the reading and get the meaning quickly, so it’s both refreshing and frustrating? Weird ngl.
I’m testing the waters 年内 with a new mnemonic and hoping it’ll stick better. Bill Nye the Science Guy wants to save the world by the end of the year.
Hm… for 年中, a little kid named Juu licks sticks all year around.
