What does しとった mean in this sentence?

そうじゃ
さっきハズラットのやつ血相をかえてうろうろしとった
奴に聞いてみたらどうじゃ

Could someone help me out with this しとった please. The text was said in response to being asked about the location of a woman who visited him earlier.

Thanks

If I rewrote it as してた would it make sense to you? Its just like a different way of talking, like how they are saying どうじゃ rather than どうだ

Thanks, I thought it might be his way of speaking that was causing confusion.

To add a little more, in some dialects いる (attached to て form at least, not sure about generally) is replaced with おる. Then just like how している can be shortened to してる, しておる can be shortened to しとる.

I think it might just be と is just the contraction of てお like しておく becoming しとく whereas ている is just the い getting removed and not smushed into anything. てあ is the same thing with したげる.

Yeah I didn’t mean it was the same principle. Just making a comparison via a contraction OP might already know about.
