Can someone help me identify the verb in this phrase?

bookwalker ebook pg 39

中学生の女の子が自転車にはぬられて、

I’m assuming it’s ‘ぬられて’, with ‘には’ as a combined particle and that ‘られて’ is the passive + connective form conjugation, so I would assume the verb would be ‘ぬる’. But the definitions listed in Jisho for that (塗る) don’t seem to match what the story is talking about (or what Deepl translate says is the English translation)… Help?

Not sure if it’s a typo in Bookwalker (or am I in the wrong place?) but Kindle has はねられて, not はぬられて

This comes from 跳ねる in passive form. 跳ねる means to run over (with a car or other vehicle)

That…makes so much more sense. And it appears that was a misread from me reading on my phone with it’s tiny screen, instead of my ipad like I usually do. It is in fact ね, not ぬ. Whoops… :person_facepalming: Thank you for the help!

Done with this week’s reading! Loved both short stories, but my favorite was the last one

Just read this week! I liked our two stories, so far I’m enjoying the variety in this book! I’m noticing that not all the stories end badly, some of them are more cautionary about what you should or shouldn’t do when interacting with a ghost/spirit/being.

Same!

I was kind of sad to find out that the spirits weren’t her parents hanging around to watch over her…
