Watching/Listening content suggestions

I want to start immersing myself more by watching youtube and some anime in Japanese without English subs (Preferably with Japanese subs), I figured some of you might know some youtubers and anime I could watch and actually enjoy.
I’d prefer stuff with japanese subtitles that are not embedded in the video, to make it a lot easier to look up.

Here’s some content I enjoy watching in English:

Automotive youtubers:
Gears & Gasoline
Overdrive
Mighty Car Mods

Tech youtubers:
Linus Tech Tips
The Linux Experiment
Retro Game Corps
Taki Udon
Optimum Tech

Anime I watched:
Steins;Gate
Violet Evergarden
Films from Makoto Shinkai
(Just some stuff that is not so busy in terms of special effects and includes normal looking humans)

If any of you know some stuff I might enjoy I’d love to hear. It doesn’t have to be much, just something to start me off.

Thanks!

Makes me realize we need more people to help out filling in the Wiki with suggestions about science and technology! :eyes:

The best suggestion I can make is to search for 記録映画 and ドキュメンタリー and make your searches fully Japanese. Because there are stuff on YT, but you just need to search the correct way: in Japanese.

Thanks!
Indeed the science and technology sections there are completely empty…
I already figured that searching in Japanese is the best way, I made a new youtube channel specifically to get recommendations only in Japanese

That’s really smart at well. As for the categories. I just made them, literally, moments ago after seeing your post! :joy: there was nothing, so let’s hope that having subheadings on there helps people get excited about adding stuff about those topics, because I’d love to watch that stuff as well! :eyes:

Many heads are always better than one when looking for something.

Also, totally forgot to mention, but right now, there is the Kurzgesagt in Japanese watching thread that you could join! You’d be welcomed with open arms there! :+1:

Not much to go on for anime since you only listed a bit, but based on those you might enjoy Vivy. I’d also recommend Madoka Magica. Both may be a bit challenging though.

Hahaha that makes sense!
I also saw the thread about kurzgesagt, but I feel that might still be a bit too complicated? Maybe I can rewatch some of their older stuff in Japanese as I think I’ve seen all their English videos

For sure. We did start off with the Dyson sphere as well as the Fermin? paradox. lol that was literally just last week I listened to, but yeah, the coming weeks it’s the deep ocean instead.

I’m thinking about adding other sciency subheadings, but if you have any specific topics in mind, just let me know!

Yeah haven’t watched many yet, but also don’t mind finding new/different things, I just really don’t like it when everybody looks like they’re 12 years old and when the anime is all in your face

Maybe some random facts stuff? Akin to Tom Scott, makes me think I’d like to learn more about Japan in general too

That could go under the science label though. It doesn’t say what science! XD

I did add Computer History and Technology as that might draw some people in. I know there are lots of programmers and people in the industry on these forums. Let’s hope they can help out a bit. ^>^

@denzo @trunklayer @BIsTheAnswer @latepatate @logograph? and the list goes on

Got any good ideas for YT channels about computer sciency stuff? or just sciency stuff? In Japanese that is, preferably with subs that you can turn off if needed. But anything goes.

Awesome, I love how active this community is. I hope I can contribute a bit in the near future!

I’m sure you will! We’ll see if I can get any of the people I happen to know about computers to reply on here…let’s add @joeni as I somehow forgot! XD But I also forgot several more… :sowwy:!

I haven’t watched that many Japanese youtube channels, so I can’t really help there. I can second @seanblue’s recommendation of Vivy though. It’s an anime about AI trying to prevent the AI apocalypse, with time-travel involved. I really enjoyed the series back when I watched it.

Glad you chimed in regardless. It was a touch ask and I had 0 specifics to give myself. ^>^

That’s okay though, I already appreciate the effort you put in replying!

Alright, thank you. I’ll check out Vivy!

Edit: Do any of you happen to have the Japanese subs? Or a place to find them?
Edit 2: Nevermind I found them here

I don’t really watch many Japanese channels, I’m afraid, at least, none that haven’t been mentioned and definitely nothing computing specific, ごめん

Thanks for taking time to think about it anyway.
