I started WaniKani recently and just finished level 1. I’m a bit confused about the fact there is still some vocabulary left and I am already level 2. How do I go through other vocabulary so that it shows in my reviews? It’s only showing me level 2 lessons, unless I manually click level 1 and then I can see the vocabulary but I want to be quized on it. Is there a way to do it?
I went through all of the kanji. Just one example - I’ve studied 上 and learned the reading じょう for it. I went to check the vocabulary and there on the list I saw 上 with うえ reading and that’s how I realized it’s something new. But I learned the kanji, so why didn’t it show in vocabulary lesson for level 1? Will it show in lessons for level 2 or do I just have to study it on my own? I want to be able to review it through SRS…
In order to unlock a vocabulary, you have to have all the kanjis that are used for that vocab at Guru, so if you don’t have 上 at Guru yet, you’ll have to do that first in order to unlock the vocab version and all other vocablary that contain 上
What I am asking is, is the vocabulary locked? Does it look like the vocab on the top (kind of greyed out) or the bottom (with a red circle next to it)?
If the vocab is greyed out then this means you haven’t got it’s kanji to a high enough level yet. The vocab will unlock after you do this, and it will show up normally in your lessons.
Oh I get it! Most of them are with the red circle, there are just two that are greyed out. That means it will eventually show in my lessons? I don’t need to learn them now (the ones with the red circle)?
Btw, I don’t want to sound like a mod, but I think it might be helpful for others with the same question if you marked the post that solved your question as solution
I notice you say “you’ve learnt them”, not you “guru’d them”. That’s what you need to do for all progress when it comes to new lessons. You guru the radicals = unlocks new kanji that incorporate those radicals. You guru kanji = unlocks vocab that use that kanji. and so on.
As always, for new users, it’s always helpful to check out the knowledge base for how to make the best use of WK and to understand how it all works.
