Visual Guide on How To Install A Userscript

can you download this on an apple ipad?

Hello. This might be a stupid question, but you know when you installed the user scripts on your pc if you then access the wanikani site or the apps that accomdate wanikani like smoldering durtles on your phone will they work on or would you have to also install them on firefox?

WaniKani third-party apps, like Smoldering Durtles, aren’t web browsers, so that can’t be installed UserScripts. Firefox on mobile, which is a web browser, probably can.

UserScripts to be used on a phone has to be installed from the phone. AFAIK, they don’t sync from Firefox for desktop.

Ok thanks for that :+1:

Hello,
I tried setting up the userscript to skip vocabulary reviews, but I can not get it to work. I did Steps 1 and 2, made sure that Tampermonkey is activated but I can not see any changes when doing reviews.

Does anyone know how i can fix this?

I am using google Chrome on my Macbook. Also I don’t know much about this kind of stuff so please be a little patient…

Hi all,

I updated the guide a bit with some new screenshots, clarified some sections and added some new stuff under troubleshooting.

Looking through the thread it’s clear that questions such as ā€œdoes this work on device X or browser Yā€ keep popping up every once in a while. Feel free to update the Troubleshooting section with these, or create a new Q&A section. At least, I think people can make edits to OPs now, right? I’ve seen some broken images being fixed by others in the version history.

I’m just saying, if you feel like you can improve this guide, go for it!

Hi there,

I came back to WK these days after a looong pause, and I’m trying to get back the scripts I used to have. Thing is, I installed Tampermonkey and the Open Framework, but all my scripts (Open Framework included) are enabled but not running. It doesn’t matter how much I refresh the page, it stays the same.

Does someone know how to solve this? I’m using Microsoft Edge. Thank youu

Not sure about Edge specifically, but Edge is based on Chrome, and Chrome now requires that you enable Developer Mode to allow TamperMonkey to inject scripts.

It worked! ć‚ć‚ŠćŒćØ恆ļ¼(āĀ“ā—”`ā)

Do you have a suggestion on which browser to use for WK open framework + scripts? All my scripts stopped working in Chrome, so I’m guessing I either need to enable developer mode on Chrome, or use Firefox.

The choice of browser is bigger than just Wanikani, so there’s no single answer. I use Brave (browser) + AdGuard (plugin) to block most tracking, especially Google and Meta. Brave is a modified version of Chrome, so it also requires enabling Developer Mode to use TamperMonkey.

I used to like Firefox in the early days, but it has had a lot of compatibility issues over the last few years, and Chrome-based browsers (especially with tracking disablers) are much faster than Firefox last time I compared. But things are always changing, so take that into consideration.

I have installed Tampermonkey, and two scripts–self study quiz and limit self study. I want to be able to drill kanji only. I was given this advice: ā€œI’m not familiar with the Limit Self Study script. But Self-Study Quiz does have the ability to only do kanji by going into the settings, creating a new Items preset, turning on the Item Type filter, and checking Kanji.ā€ I got as far as opening settings for the Self Study quiz, but do not see how to turn in Item Type filter. Any help is appreciated.

  • Once you are in settings, there are three tabs at the top: Questions, Items and Settings. You want to select Items.
  • Now you create a New Preset List called ā€œAll Kanjiā€ (or whatever you want) in the preset name box.
  • Make sure the Wanikani item source checkbox is selected.
  • In the filters section select Item Type and within that Kanji.
  • Then ā€œSaveā€

When running the quiz, you select what you want to be questioned on, for example ā€œJapanese to Englishā€ and the data selection will be All Kanji or whatever you called it.

[You could also limit the kanji to kanji of your current level, for example, or apprentice kanji or whatever, by adjusting the filters when you set up the data preset list.]

Thank you.
When I am in settings, I see: General, User, Tags, User Script Search, User Script Update. That is from the Tampermonkey menu.

When I am in Wanikani and open up my profile, I see scripts and settings. Under settings, all I see is app, account, API programs and danger zone.

I do not see questions, items and settings. Which settings tab yields these three options? I am sorry as usual to be such a pain.

You need to look at SSQ, NOT Tampermonkey or WK. I don’t know what your situation is but you might have to do the following to see what @Jon001 is saying (Questions, Items and Setting).

  1. Refresh your browser.
  2. Click on your icon (upper right).
  3. You should now see the following:

  1. Click on ā€˜Open’ under Scripts.
  2. Click on SSQ and the page shown below will appear.

  1. SSQ is missing all these icons that allow you to choose what you want to do. So move your cursor around the spot labeled ā€˜Configure presets’ and when you see ā€˜Configure presets’ click on it.
  2. Now you’ll have the configuration page with ā€˜Questions, Items and Setting’ at the top.

Good luck!

I had the issue of the missing icons as well, but there’s a user style sheet that fixes the problem (so you can see the cog to access the quiz setting). I also struggled with this when I installed in March. It feels so long ago.

This was the thread that gave me the advice I needed. [With thanks to again to prouleau and others.]

For me the issue was I hadn’t installed the Stylus extension, so the style sheet that made the cog and other features visible wasn’t being included.

This is what it should look like with the settings cog visible, just under the close-window x in the top right.

Yeah, I’m aware of this but as much as possible I like to avoid downloading stuff. Since I mapped out where all the icons are located, I just use is as is
