The Meaning of のための

I couldn’t find any information on whatever this is:

のための

The original fragments were:

日本語の聴解のための
(For Japanese Listening Comprehension)

外国人のための相談会
(Consultation meeting for foreigners)

It seems that のための describes the purpose of the noun: X のための Y means Y is for X’s use.

Would this be correct?

I’d say it’s のため (for) + の

外国人のための相談会 -

外国人のため – for foreigners.
相談会 – consultation.
What consultation? Consultation for foreigners: (外国人のため)の相談会

ため basically means sake (as in “for the sake of”/purpose, not the drink sake). So literally these would be:

  • 日本語の聴解のための
    Japanese listening comprehension’s sake’s (X) / (X) for the sake of listening comprehension of Japanese
  • 外国人のための相談会
    Foreigners’ sake’s consultation meeting / consultation meeting for the sake of foreigners

Here’s more about this. This is ために, but notice that に attaches to verbs and your examples are nouns. It’s the same concept, the Bunpro lesson here is just explaining its adverbial use instead of its adjectival use you came across.
