Teasing Master Takagi-san šŸ˜ 惻 Volume 6 Discussion Thread [Volume Complete!]

They definitely don’t! I think the only thing I would say about anime questions, is try and mark what bit they come from (I.e., this particular segment is titled 催ēœ č”“) and dropping them under a spoiler just in case we haven’t reached that spot in the manga yet (since the anime does things in a different order).

Oh yes, you’re absolutely right! A note on this - I’m quite confused about what’s happening, because before watching again the anime I looked on reddit trying to figure out the anime to manga comparison. I was convinced that the first takagi-san season only included events up to volume 6 and nothing more, but I was somehow wrong

Yeah, I’m not sure what the anime to manga comparison is honestly. You could check the Wikipedia articles for episode lists and compare.

I thought I lost my mind because I was sure that when I watched Takagi-san some years ago (and maybe also when we chatted about it back in April/ May in the Vol. 1 book club) the 1x01 ep. was ę¶ˆć—ć‚“ćƒ . In particular, I remember @Arzar33 suggesting me to check the episode as well as a support to my manga studies, or was it someone else…
So somehow the show indeed got either rebooted since I don’t remember watching this particular episode, or netflix simply changed the episodes order

Ah, that’s where the confusion is.

Crunchyroll has rights to Season 1

Netflix only has Season 2, which is what you’re watching if you’re watching it there

HiDive has Season 3

Aren’t streaming rights fun?

I knew that trusting Netflix on anime series was a terrible idea! :exploding_head:

I see that @shuly is here as well! Long time no hear, were you able to do that trip to Japan in the end?

Hence the reason for so much piracy… Greedy licensors! So frustrating…

Yeah I’m at work… Will try to remember when I get home to give you a better update.. but I did spend a month in Japan last year… Was a great trip!

Looking forward to hear of your experience  I’m planning a month or so at the end of the year as well!

sorry for not getting back to you yesterday… there was a lot to the trip…

trip info

to summarize quickly was there for a month…

1st and 2nd weeks was with the other half, weeks 3 and 4 alone…
Flew from LAX to HND

First week did a lot of the typical tourist stuff… Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Himeji … etc…
Met our friend who took us all over the place, so exhausted on the first day…but amazing…
On the way to Kyoto stopped in Shizuoka to visit another friend and her family they took us around so awesome of them…went to Shiraito Falls, private Sake Tour, and Sawayaka for dinner before heading to Kyoto.

Stayed in Kyoto and met up with some other friends who took us around Osaka (her old classmate from school ran us all over the place)…but was great… Then Kyoto with the group and Himeji ourselves…Returned to Tokyo and hung out with our friend again… (none of this probably makes any sense but it’s what we did)

and another fun thing I was doing was trying to collect all the IC cards from the various prefectures that I could… Did make sure to spend all the money on them so nothing left but a random fun thing to do

Flew from HND to Miyazaki

another card

2nd Week went to Miyazaki to visit one of my instructors and spend a week in Kyuushuu
Kyuushuu is really underrated!! Definitely want to go back… Visited Takachiho and Beppu (some nice Ryokans there - Beppu is a hot springs town on the ocean…really nice and the Hell tour sounds silly but it was a fun day!)

because we had rented a car found some fun stuff on the way

Rented a car for this part of the trip…first time driving on the opposite side of the road…not hard just takes some getting used to (gotta get over the omg im gonna die when traffic is coming opposite what you are used to haha)

Flew from Miyazaki to HND and then other half flew back to LAX and I flew to Sapporo… (No direct flights from Kyuushuu to Hokkaido…seriously!!! anyway …

Stayed in Sapporo for a few days (rented a car for this whole 3rd and 4th weeks)…drove basically the perimeter around Hokkaido by myself. I had some hit/miss stuff though because it was the end of the season early Nov…so stuff that should have been open was closed…and occasionally google maps/nav lied a little but all in all had a nice time. Did make sure to get to Wakkani and Shiretoko, though lots of closures because of bear sightings …hello kumasan…I brought my giant zoom to get pictures…no luck though everything was off limits…Even found a nice hiking path with a warning sign but no bears…very disappointing.

another card

one of my favorite spots…end of season so had the whole place to myself! fall colors were perfect

The trip was really long so if there was something or a particular area you wanna know about, let me know, otherwise this post will be way too long

I came back with over 8000 pictures between the two cameras and the cell phone…so stopping there …

:joy: that’s what I thought indeed, but what a a lovely first days! :star_struck: spending time with your friends like this is the best!

Man I didn’t know how gorgeous Beppu is

 I will rent a car as well and I’m quite concerned with driving on the opposite side of the road, for the first five days there (I programmed to land in Tokyo, rent, go to hakone, then nikko and be back in tokyo after 5 days and ~450km. Note. I love driving)

 you have pics of the car trip??

Any experience with apple maps?

Shit, I’m scared of bears, a lot

I will ask when I have more free time, in this moment I’m in the bus surrounded by kids and can’t focus
Thanks for sharing your experience man! Gorgeous pics!!

Edit: I’m going to rent car through booking, 200~€ for 4 days and a half. Do you know cheaper ways to do it?

thanks…those were all just random cell phone photos

I honestly think all of Kyuushuu is totally underrated for travel..it was an amazing place!

Car Rental and worries

So much depends on you’re driving confidence…I live in LA and drive all the time, long distance, in snow, ice…etc… have a lot of experience… though I do h8 ice!

We didn’t rent a car until we got to Kyuushuu, you really don’t need a car in Tokyo, even if a station is too far you can usually flag a taxi…they aren’t cheap but sometimes it’s just faster!

I am glad about renting the car in Miyazaki…not as much traffic and got a chance to adjust to everything opposite…Having driven Sapporo and all over I’d be comfortable now driving in Tokyo but not to start out… The first day I would describe… it felt like the first time you get your drivers license…hyper focused on everything, narrower streets … keep your butt on the other line!!! always wanted to drift left instead of right… but after the first day it got a lot easier…though first few days kept going to the passenger side door to drive… idiot foreigner haha

The scariest thing to get used to was pulling up to a stop sign and say you wanted to turn right… looking left and it’s clear then looking right and suddenly there’s a car going barreling down… first thought is holy hell im gonna die and then you realize …oh yeah opposite world

After a week driving around Kyuushuu, Miyazaki to Takachiho to Beppu and then down the coast back to Miyazaki…about 1000km or whatever it was…was fully comfortable driving.

The only things to make sure you do…didn’t happen to me but I know someone who just make this mistake and is in Japan now and can’t rent a car … get your IDP (international drivers permit/license) BEFORE you leave your home country… In the US with photos at AAA it’s like 25 bucks …and done!

Also when you rent a car, make sure you get the IC card for the tolls…makes it easier and you just pay when you return the rental car. Though do have some change, because one location in Kyuushuu was totally caught offguard there was no automated gate…human only … instant panic wasn’t ready holding up the line…embarassing haha

Driving in Hokkaido was fine, a little snow but early so not bad…though that car didn’t realize wouldn’t have cruise control…MUST have in Japan if you are driving long distances…it’s nothing like driving here at home in the states…I just drove to and from Utah about 1500 miles round trip give or take… and we can speed limits up to 80 mph…Japan’s speed limits are hella slow 40 kph…CRAWLING!!! turtle speeds… and a lot of the express ways are one lane with not a lot of passing options…where I could easily drive for 8-10 hours here in the states…that’s excruciating in Japan.

nope…too many worms in the apples  haha

Google did ok

…but two things…make sure it doesn’t take you the wrong way on a one way road…thankfully it was a Sunday early in the morning with no traffic and realized really quickly but shees…[found out the reason was that it thought I was walking instead of driving..um yeah at high speed…shees stupid google…something to watch out for anyway when you switch the nav from walking to driving ]… the other thing about Google maps, have had this happen in other areas too, not just Japan…but when a turn is coming up sometimes the timing for warnings isn’t quite what you are used to and you will turn too early or too late…if you’ve never experienced it it won’t make sense but if you have you know exactly what I’m talking about… (not a big deal just go around the block or whatever)

but they are so fluffy!!! BOO!!!

more on car rental

I’m far from an expert, but I found that as a foreigner you can’t generally take advantage of the cheaper rental prices. Typically have to go through on of the bigger companies and purchase the libaility insurance…I never bother with rental insurance here at home because my own car insurance + credit card covers all…however in Japan…I got 110% of everything…didn’t need it but certainly didn’t want any hassle…

Also I took along a dash cam that had front / rear cameras because figured as a foreigner…if there’s an accident, even if it’s not your fault it will be your fault…so used that in both vehicles. Never needed it but was happy to have it.

As far as companies go…Just stick with the bigger ones…I have heard stories of some rental places still trying to refuse to rent to people with IDP, but personally didn’t have a problem (I had used Avis)…but a friend of mine who is Japanese, they weren’t going to rent a car to her husband even though he had a reservation…she quickly sorted it out for him…so stick with the bigger/more regular companies and just pay the extra for full insurance and you can rest easy.

I’m no expert but that was my experience… I think you’ll have a great time…

sorry for the derailing

At least from the photos I see on internet, I’m sure that it’s so! Even though, I decided to visit Kyushu in another travel since I don’t want to rush between too many cities of Japan, I like to enjoy things slowly.

Now that you mention the ice, I’m a bit worried because I never drove on it. Even though I don’t have a ton of experience especially in bad wether conditions, I consider myself a good careful driver.

About this, I agree 100%, in fact I will land in Tokyo and go to Hakone ASAP, sleep 2 nights there and then go to Nikko. Sleep 2 other nights there and then return to Tokyo, immediately give the car back and stay here for 9 nights :star_struck:
In case you are interested (or have comments which are greatly appreciated on it), here’s the itinerary I planned: Hakone(2nights)-Nikko(2nights)-Tokyo(9n)-Kanazawa(3n)-Takayama(3n)-Kyoto(9n)-Osaka(4n) and finally Hiroshima (5 nights).

 very interesting to hear your experience, I’m sure it will be 100% like that to me as well

Yeah right, would be shit to forget and leave without it  I think it’s called ginevra treaty or something, need to make it yet.

About this, do you know if they can provide you an ETC to pay automatically at the toll booths? I have one in Italy which is connected to my credit card and without it it’s be insane :exploding_head: also now that we’re here. In Italy the major cities are infested with driving limited zones (only authorized vehicles, motors or bikes, eg.). Is it the same in Japan?

Cruise control is life!

 this could play at the advantage of foreigners.. I’m used to people driving like crazy bastards. That would be a problem, having to drive mirror like for the first time :joy:

Sheeeeesh :anxious_face_with_sweat:

I love them in fact.. I’m just scared of being mauled

Well, didn’t think of it. I will do that as well.

You gave me a lot of greatly useful info man.. thanks!:man_bowing:

I have a question regarding the Last chapter titled as ć€Œē›®č–¬ć€coming before the bonus chapter…

Context: 脿片 is trying to figure out how to open 高木s eyes after he lost to her in the first round. And so he says in his head the following sentence…

ć¾ćšćÆć•ć£ćć‚„ć‚‰ć‚ŒćŸ
ć“ćć°ć›ć§ć‚‚ā€¦

Translation: First off, since I got got/tricked earlier…
恓恝怌For sure怍
ć°ć›ć§ć‚‚ć€Œļ¼Ÿļ¼Ÿć€

I tried to see it if was a set expression but I got nothing. My educative guess for the last part is that 脿片 says that he’ll get for sure but it’s a first time I’ve seen this construction.

Thanks In advance :)))

I’m not familiar with the usage of 恓恝恰恛 as this is the only instance I’ve seen in manga I’ve read, but here’s a page that might help:

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/恓恝恰恙

The ć€Œć•ć£ćć‚„ć‚‰ć‚ŒćŸć€ refers to the action Nishikata received (had done to him) previously and is a modifier for 恓恝恰恛. (If I recall correctly, he’s considering using the tactic that was used on him.)

Thank you for that much needed clarification (^.^)
