Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
  • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

When asking for help, please include the ‘chapter page number’. This makes it easier for others to help you and it makes the information in this thread more searchable. The ‘chapter page numbers’ are the ones in between the panels on every page, not the ones that occasionally appear at the bottom of the page (those would be the volume page numbers).

I’m sorry, but I cannot truthfully say that I will be “reading” this chapter, so I am unable to pick the first option here.

That’s okay. Discourse would have deleted your vote while restoring the back-up anyway.

Me? Bitter because this debacle has made the ABBC poll a right pain? Nah, never

Nice chapter and it feels like we got a backstage view of what lengths Takagi goes to win (or tease)

We’re a little late for äžƒć€•, but let’s still see what Nishikata and Takagi-san are wishing for with éĄ˜æŽ›ă‘

I’ve caught up on reading and I feel there is one more thing to do to complete my mission:
Clicking on “I’ve already read it!” before you do.
Watch your back! :joy:

Thanks!
Reading the old posts was interesting. I felt like I had traveled back in time. Putting Takagi-san aside, I followed eagerly, wondering if you would be able to go to Japan in the end. I was very happy when I read that you did. I hope the trip was worth all the anxiety.

thread derailing so hidden

it was an amazing trip

spent 1 month

thanks to all the friends I have made through language learning and what not
had quite the experience most tourists just don’t get to experience

wanted to go and spend time in nature/quiet places not really the cities, etc
but first 2 weeks other half came along first time in Japan so
did the general tourist obligatory stuff

week 1:
met up with our friend that lives in Tokyo
spent a few days doing so much
 Kimonos even! (he surprised us
on day 1)
 jet lag what’s that
omg I was so exhausted

Tues of that week went to Shizuoka to visit another lang friend
she was amazing
she picked us up from the station with her family and drove us to several places and they took us to sawayaka for dinner
was one hell of a day
just amazing (and since Japan had barely reopened
basically had almost everything to ourselves
)
That night continued to Kyoto
spent some time there, Osaka and then Fri went to Himeji and then back to Toyko (yes made the railpass worthwhile - is it still a deal anymore with the price increase
maybe
not sure)
anyway
Spent time exploring more of Tokyo with our friend
the first week was very much quick tour for the other half
don’t recommend trying to sneak in this much into 1 week

week 2: flew to miyazaki to meet one of my teachers (she is the best
we even had dinner one night with her mom
)
rented a car for the week and drove 1500 km
or something like that
spend a few days in miyazaki
 then went to takachiho
spend the night there
and then stayed at a ryokan in beppu
(didn’t want to leave that place amazing!)
did the hell tour in oita
great way to spend the day
sounds silly but it was fun
after a couple of days drove back down the coast and met up with my sensei again
 and her friend
spent one day exploring Aya Town
you don’t get that kind of experience as a normal tourist

weeks 3/4
then wrapping up and flew back to HND and was alone for the next 2 weeks and flew to Hokkaido
started in Sapporo. Rented a car for the two weeks drove about 2500km
drove almost the whole perimeter of Hokkaido
(didn’t do hakkodate end but) got to really enjoy nature
and since it was the end of the season and Japan had barely opened so much was so quiet and peaceful
got to do a lot of nature photography
drove to wakkani, shiretoko, kushiro, basically all over

yeah very short story
‘yadda yadda’ over a lot but then the post would be too long

makes me think I need to plan my next trip
Then I remember it’s summer in Japan right now
and that’s a hard pass :grinning:

we will see

Tempting to go in Nov/Dec this year but shouldn’t be irresponsible with money
