Starting fresh (again) after 5 months of downtime

Hey all!

I’ve been a lifetime subscription holder for many years, but have only buckled down mid-2024 in hopes of getting some Japanese chops up for our upcoming trip in September. I managed to get to level 27 by February, but life circumstances hit and I pretty much dropped all Japanese language learning until I got everything back on track.

I’m happy to say that I’m back and still determined to shake the rust off even with less than 2 months until the trip! Trying to chip away at the review pile and diving straight back in to 27 was way more rough than I thought so I bit the bullet and reset back down to 1. After all, the level means nothing if I haven’t retained anything!

Anyway, just wanted to say hi to the community and I’m excited to be studying again

Glad to have you here again. Hopefully things start coming back to you as you work and you have a nice pool to draw from when you travel. 頑張って!

Welcome back! catwave

I know how you feel, it took me 8 years and many resets to reach level 60 trunky_rolling
But I did it – and so can you!

Best of luck with your studies! wricat

Thank you! I will say that it’s been a nice confidence boost to be going through the early levels so quickly

Thank you so much. It’s reassuring to hear that others have gone through resets and have come out the other side. Hope the rest of your language learning journey is going great!

Welcome back! I also restarted at level 1 earlier this year after being away for years. Just a heads-up — while it’s easy to blast through the early levels by doing 20–30 lessons a day, I recommend doing fewer lessons to stay more consistent in the long run. Wishing you the best of luck!
