Second chance on hiragana typos

Adding my voice to others who’ve suggested giving the second chance “boo boo” bump for hiragana typos. The correct hiragana is already in the vocab term; obviously I didn’t mean to type き instead of く, etc.

This was actually implemented and launched last month, but rolled back again because of various issues:

New Typo Protection Feature?

Hi everyone! I want to confirm that we did launch a feature to catch typos in visible kana, but we realized quickly that there were bugs in our algorithm so we disabled it as soon as we realized that. I’m sorry to everyone whose workflows were affected in the meantime. The plan for this feature is to catch genuine typos but still allow people to fail a review deliberately. So we’ll go back to the drawing board and post an update once we’ve figured out how to get there without the unintended cons…

If only there was some kind of UI element (maybe it could look like a button or something?) and/or a keyboard shortcut (I dunno, escape or something) to allow you to fail a review without any checking going on.

I guess we will have to wait until after they bring back the review summary page before they look at inventing such cutting edge solutions which surely have never been tried before on any website ever.
