Well that’s a wrap
I considered delaying the end until Monday to give myself time to make all those progress and stats graphs that I always posted here before, but I figured screw it, why go to the trouble when realistically, almost nobody cares about the graphs anyway. And to be fair, the graphs would most likely look basically the same as the ones from the last epilogue run anyway.
Anyway, I definitely don’t intend to do this again, although there’s a slight chance I might forget and come back anyway. As much fun as it is to try to get items up through the SRS levels and burn every last item, doing this last epilogue run has really emphasized just how pointless it all feels.
The reason is because I’ve already burned most items, and what is left is disproportionately leeches. There’s just not much point in endlessly churning through the same leeches and difficult items every four months without every getting much of anywhere.
Anyway, it looks like this time around I burned 184 out of the 325 items possible, or about 56.6%. This brings the cumulative total to 8448 items burned and 785 left unburnt.
Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in
I haven’t been on Wanikani in nearly a year, but this morning, @hotdogsuplex mentioned me in their log, sending an email notification that brought me back to the forums.
They and another commenter both said that they enjoyed reading my own WK log, so I felt like I should do a third “epilogue” run for old time’s sake. Additionally, it looks like Wanikani has added 44 new lessons (not counting ones locked behind the new radical and kanji) since I was last here, so I have the justification of new lessons to do as well.
Anyway, it looks like the last run took a month and 11 days - hopefully this one will be a bit shorter. Before I start, the current stats are:

People are just going to keep pulling you back in until you burn everything.
I knew it would probably be a bit rough at the start, but I was still surprised by how badly I did.
Today I missed 18/25 reviewed. That’s only 28% accuracy! To be fair, I did almost remember or kind of remember most of the words, but “almost” doesn’t cut it on Wanikani. I wish Wanikani still had the review session summary page, so I could take a screenshot.
Anyway, that’s at least four failed burn opportunities missed. 197 left to go.

It looks like I missed 26/50 today, although one of those was just a typo, so my “effective” accuracy today was 50%.
It is pretty demoralizing to miss so many reviews for words I almost got but just slightly missed, or like remembered it was one of two things but guessed wrong, especially when it’s a burn review.
On the bright side, I did successfully burn my first items today. The weird thing is that Wanikani only shows 7 recently burned items, even though my burn count went up by 8 compared to yesterday’s post. I have no idea what’s up with that.
