Reading Vol. 12・ふらいんぐうぃっち・Flying Witch (Beginner Book Club) 🧹

Sure. I’ll see about getting a thread up for the next volume probably today, then it’s a matter of working out our start date.

Weeeeell, I haven’t ordered it yet :joy: (I’ve been waiting to get paid again - thankfully that will be happening tomorrow!). I’m guessing it’ll probably take about a week to arrive once I order it, amazon.jp shipping is usually pretty quick for me.

Clearly one of the poll options was poorly written!

Shall we start on the 2nd of July? That leaves a bit of a buffer!

Hello !
Want to try reading this book but in the vocabulary list the english translation is missing for the chapter 1.1
Did someone saved a previous version of the list?

It appears the English column went missing in the past day for 1.1. I have now restored it.

Thank you.

I’d say five  and no dissenting responses sounds like we’re good to go for the 2nd.

Hey there, the Mega-Link doesn’t work anymore, do you still have this anki deck? I’d really love to use it!

That was an old one that only had the vocab for vol 1 I think. Didn’t know it was down.
I made a newer one in 2021 for vol 1-8.
Everything was taken directly from the vocab sheet and put into an Anki deck, with native voice added for almost all of the vocab.
Each volume was separated into a subgroup so you can focus on one volume at a time.
Here it is: Flying witch vol 1-8.apkg - Google Drive

Well I caught up with you just in time for volume 12 by the looks of it. According to kodansha website the next volume is released on June 8th.

At first I just enjoyed this as a relatively simple manga that is easy to read, but as the series went on I’ve really grown to love the characters and storylines. Especially the magic and mystery elements. It’s also steadily ramped up to be a more challenging read as the volumes progresses! Thanks for the vocab spreadsheets which meant less looking up and more just enjoying the story.

Oh, it’s early. They’ve released them on June 9th every year for the last three years.

It hasn’t hit my recommended page on Kobo yet, but they have a listing for it as well.

Volume 10 was released on June 9th, and we started reading on July 10th.

Volume 11 was released on June 9th, and we started reading on July 2nd.

Volume 12 will release on June 8th.

We don’t want to start reading before everyone buying physical has a copy, so any date we decide on in advance should be considered subject to change based on when everyone has a copy.

I expect the results of this poll to match prior polls, but to confirm:

Are you buying a physical copy or digital?

What start dates would be convenient for you if everyone has their copy available? I imagine for most of us, Flying Witch isn’t too difficult or time-consuming of a read, but consider other book clubs you’re in for conflicts.

We have cover art.

@windupbird, it looks like your copy’s ordering, shipping, and arrival schedule may be a deciding factor on when we start, depending on whether it arrives before or after the end of the month!

Are you sure Makoto can be trusted with a bike? Considering her sense of direction, she’s gonna wind up back in Yokohama. Or flying to the Moon…

Oh noes, I hate being a deciding factor :see_no_evil: I’m planning to order my copy as soon as it comes out (right now Amazon is giving me a delivery date range of June 13 - 22), BUT I’m going to be out of town the last 2 weeks of June, so if it were up to me, I would not set a start date before the beginning of July. No matter what, I should have my copy by July 1st, so we could start right away when I get back? If we do start in June, I’ll miss those weeks whether I technically have the book in hand or not, so really the question is whether you guys want to wait for me to get back from my trip xD (I will not be offended if the answer is no lol)

I don’t feel like we’ve seen much of Nao recently, interesting to see her on the front cover now the main action is back in Aomori. Hopefully Kei has more cool T-shirts this volume to match that baseball cap. Bit of an “Assassination Classroom” vibe to that cap.

Happy to start whenever, only just finished volume 11!
