Started 名探偵コナン Volume 21 today and read the first two chapters, plus I found time to read another chapter from my Spanish short stories book. Thank goodness for weekends!
I did the same thing last fall after both not liking the PC app and driving myself crazy trying to use the app on my tiny phone screen. The app interface combined with the larger tablet screen is so much better!

Despite best intentions of just focusing on one book over the weekend I ended up reading lots of bits of various books.
Doraemon is complete, other than the author’s notes. I enjoyed it overall, some stories much more than others, and it was a good way to test my actual word knowledge as opposed to just kanji recognition.
Little bit more of Look Back and Phantom Busters, and also started a Sign of Affection. Seems fine so far, and the art is pretty. I’m not yet hooked but then again, most Shojo doesn’t do it for me

Good reading today.
Specifically the parts I was reading, ノルウェイの森 today felt noticeably easier than この嘘がばれないうちに. The latter tends to just once a chapter (during a flashback mid-time travel) randomly dump you into a very dense, descriptive passage which is about 10x harder to parse than all the rest of the story. I think it only feels harder because of the massive contrast with the cafe-conversation bits. Meanwhile ノルウェイの森 was in a memorable bit I know well from the English version, and it’s quite simple language, barely any lookups needed whatsoever compared to other sections.
Tomorrow should be another ok day. Won’t finish as much as today though.

Lots of real life reading today too. Posters, ads, menus… Real life reading in Tokyo is much more fun than book reading at home! But I did read a little manga and a little Zenitendo too. Having fun with all kinds of reading!

17th feb 
read a lot of sherdock but mostly just wanted to finish that case. one(?) more chapter and then i’m done! don’t think i’m interested in reading any more of the series but it was a nice diversion. making some psycho-pass progress, i’m coming up on the truth of the sibyl system reveal so i hope that’s not too complex in text form but i suspect i’m being optimistic… also on track to finish the martian chronicles today (edit: i did!). i’m sure this comes as a shock to no one, but ray bradbury is a very good writer

・ 引きこもり令嬢は話のわかる聖獣番 2 (93% → 100%)
I finished book 
Immediately bought the next one (after activating coupon on bookwalker – I received 1000 coins from correctly guessing the winners of the Akutagawa/Naoki rewards on bookmeter).
・ 数奇にして模型 NUMERICAL MODELS (60% → 71%) That’s like 80 pages 
Tho before starting that, I figured I better catch up on the Saikawa & Moe book club which is now on its penultimate week. I don’t think I’m going to catch up, but that’s fine. Whether it is romance book or book club book, if it so happens that I’m more passionate about romance, it’s good as long as I’m reading I’m happy with my progress today.
Forgot to add this yesterday, I finished week 3 of book club:

- Continuing with the investigation, spent most of it investigating a crime scene and chatting with 糸鋸刑事ッス and a bit with 御剣検事、who are probably the two easiest to understand characters in this whole case since I’ve spent a lot of time with them before already. Still a little bit more to go before court part 2…
- Finished Sweetness and Lightning 10 overnight, getting very close to the end of series. It’s been really fun watching つむぎちゃん get older - I noticed she started using bits of kanji in her vocabulary, which is a fun visual way of showing growth that doesn’t really translate well to other languages (or mediums).
- Thinking it might be time to dive back into prose for a little bit for my side read - banging out a bunch of manga vols is fun, but I think I need to practice big chunks of prose if my aim is to read 薬屋 this year. Also, whenever I read manga I really start missing instant lookups lol. (I know I can use Mukuro, but I still haven’t gotten around to learning how… though I already process almost all the manga into PDF form so I can scribble notes on it… ugh, another thing to look into)

Got a lot of reading time in yesterday and managed to finish off chapter 7 of Phantom Busters. Also an hour’s worth of reading time re-reading some previous manga as a bit of chill time.
Out of interest, what are other people’s thoughts on reading new vs old? New is obviously great for expanding vocab and such, but when I do take the time to re-read, I often find because learning new vocab isn’t going to be the main hurdle, I can pick up on smaller nuances I may have missed before which feels equally beneficial.
