Up to page 30 in Haruhi, making this the furthest I’ve gotten in a LN so far. My knowledge from the anime definitely helps, even though it’s been a decade since I’ve seen it. Some sentences make perfect sense, others are just a jumble of semi-recognizable words, but most are somewhere in between. Word lookups fall somewhere around 10 per page. It’s definitely work, unlike a game or manga I can just zone out to, but feels like a gold mine for new words. Level 40ish feels like a sweet spot for getting into books without much furigana. I’m able to search most unknown words by typing a word I do know using the same kanji then backspacing the rest.

I really struggled with it first time round (though I was highly ambitious to read it when I did). I re-read it recently with one of the book clubs and thought it would now be a breeze, but it really wasn’t!
I find taking it a chapter at a time then having a break works. Also, it is worth looking up words, as there’s a lot of repetition, so it makes your life easier later.

When it gets to that state, changing pages doesn’t sync either, so it’ll sync me to whatever page it got the issue on even if I decide to just keep reading. I have to force crash it.
I found a workaround… my old iPad is extremely outdated and is therefore only able to use old version of the app and dictionaries. It’s a little inconvenient but it can become my reading device for harder books.

Only read one new chapter of 名探偵コナン today, though it was a full case in wrapped up in a single chapter, which is unusual!
I did also spend quite a bit of time going back over the カードキャプターさくら chapter I read yesterday, writing out my attempted translations in full, plus a few questions I had, so I could post and discuss on the offshoot book club thread.

Yesterday was a good reading day!
Managed to find a good few hours and finish off the first volume of 君には届かない, and even got in a few pages of 春風のエトランゼ in the evening.
I Will Not Reach You finished on a cliffhanger that I can’t not know what happens so I’ve already started the second volume this morning 
There were 157 new words in the first volume, so I’m hoping (praying) that this next one has a few less and is a bit easier to work through.
The last volume did use three words one after the other, 僻み、妬み and 嫉み which on Jisho all have practically the same definition of jealousy/envy. Can anyone shed light on the nuance between them or are they just interchangable? Might just be the character being dramatic and really emphasing that he thought the other guy was jealous of him.

made some headway into vol 15, which has 14(!) chapters in it so my page count might vary wildly between days. i know that this is the road we’re going down now but i really don’t care for this romance between rei and hina. idk if it’s the age gap or what but it’s just not clicking with me. maybe i’m just getting old, whatever hayashida, shimada and akari have going on is way more interesting to me in better news, i survived the titus andronicus quotes in psycho-pass

today’s nhk article was this one (interview with author 朝井リョウ) plus the entries on ても～ても and て仕方がない in aDoAJG

Idk the difference off the top of my head, but native speakers also ask the same question sometimes, so I find googling AとB（とC）は何違う usually pulls up a good explanation

What is the difference between jealousy, envy and covetousness? Sometimes it’s much of a muchness lol. I figure you learn the nuances over time…

Sounding 僻み vs ねたみ makes it feel more obvious when thinking about 僻む (which feels more like 歪む or 歪)
About the latter two Kanji (both in 嫉妬), perhaps it would help to know another vocab, 妬く.
I don’t know much about そねみ. I saw this one the least.

It’s very affirming to hear that others have had the same experience with this book! (And then of course only now I go on Natively and every review is like “why is this kid’s book taking me out???”) I can tell that I am relying a lot on my familiarity with the movie in order to form an understanding of certain things that are happening. I’ll need to check out the WK book club page too, to deepen my understanding of certain passages.
(Also I am sure me falling asleep with the book on my face every night isn’t exactly helping me grasp the vocabulary…

Trails of Cold Steel 2 watched three bonding events.
Final Fantasy VII Remake finished chapter 12 it gets more interesting again no useless filler content but still drawn out too much imho. Barett joined the party once again which immediately makes the game much better. Barett and Aerith are my favourite characters.
I had to write an email in japanese to my teacher and therefore had no time to read more.
