Been going kind of hard on Japanese reading this week and now my head kind of hurts. 
But my bookssssss
I did indeed have extra time to read today! 
Two more chapters in 名探偵コナン, which brings me halfway through the volume, plus the first chapter of カードキャプターさくら Volume 2.
I also struggled through a couple pages from a book of short stories in Spanish - so much harder!. I’m trying to learn both languages, but I’ve put a lot more time and effort into Japanese - it’s nice to get a concrete reminder that that effort has paid off, though I do hope the progress will come with Spanish as well!

Poor reading effort yesterday was after I got home from work to find my housemate’s cat had escaped (he’s away). Spent 5 hours looking for him. He showed up at midnight. So reading was a token effort. Today may not be great as I’m tired now.

Another chapter from both I Will Not Reach You and Bluelock yesterday.
The IWNRY chapter got a bit heavy on the new words again on some pages, but it’s at least starting to feel smoother to read. 
I’m wondering if I can find the time (and energy) today to finish off this volume.

Finished 第133話 of Fruits Basket 23. I have to renew my driver’s license tomorrow so I’m leaving most of this manga in case I have a lot of down time.
@Cathm2 Happy belated birthday! I’ve never seen so many early January birthdays in one place before. There’s at least 4 of us? I think there’s at least one more too… come on out wherever you are!
Currently Reading: 魔女の宅急便
I finished 気になってる人が男じゃなかった on day 1, and loved it. It’s such a fresh series and I love the two main characters so much (especially the very relatable みつき). I bought the second volume when I was in Japan a couple months ago, and I can’t wait to dive in.
But in the mean time I am struggling through 魔女の宅急便. I started it late last year, put it down for a while, and decided to use this reading challenge to get through it. I’m currently on ~p. 70. Don’t get me wrong, I love the characters, the story, the world – everything! I just don’t know why this book is so dang hard for me. I think it’s the colloquial expressions/dialogue and also my own reliance on kanji to read. Since it’s, in theory, a book for young readers, it is very, very light on kanji. I’m trying to read through without stopping to look up words, but a few of the times I have done that I was like “ohh…duh…” because it was a word that, with kanji, I would have understood no problem.
Anyway, there’s still a lot of the book left to go, so I hope I can find a good groove!

HOME POST So far so good! I finished the first chapter of ミステリと言う勿れ and must admit it’s really good. Still makes my head hurt tho. After finishing it, I reread the whole thing in English to check what went over my head, but overall it’s not too bad.
On the other hand I finished Volume 2 of Smoking Behind the Supermarket with you and am excited to start Volume 3! From here on out it will get harder tho, since the Offshoot Bookclub kinda went silent with the start of this Volume. It was weirdly comforting to read how others had the same questions as me, haha. Buuut the story is progressing and I am excited!

I will need to reread one of the texts I think it was about people with mental problems cutting themselves.
Final Fantasy VII Remake finished chapter 11 the train yard part was boring but at least we saw Aerith when she was a little child. Sooo cute.
Trails of Cold Steel 2 I continued with the main story the bike race was fun. Justis finally joined our party again. Also when the party was in a pinch our teacher Sara came to rescue us. Seriously how many times did it already happen that someone appeared in the last moment to rescue they party. It is starting to get old. I wouldn’t call that good story telling.

Finished love bullet! What a great volume, there were two pages that made me gasp and brought some tears to my eyes :')
After that continued with the first yagakimi light novel after a looong break. The writing style is very confusing to me and very hard to understand in some parts.

PrevToday I started one of the physical manga from my last order a few months ago that I hadn’t yet got around to, with Dr. Stone. Senkuu is not quite what I expected from anime stills etc.
Also this book is apparently allergic to page numbers, apart from in the table of contents, they don’t show up.

January 5th - Home post
Manga today too. One more chapter of ふらいんぐうぃっち 1 to finish the volume, and one chapter of 徒然日和 for the Natively book club. Not much time to read today, so a couple of chapters of manga was perfect!

Finished rereading my favorite scenes from the end of the series. I love Honzuki TuT
If I feel like rereading the series from the start (maybe in a few years), I’m thinking of buying physical copies so I can scribble in them. Lots of foreshadowing and referencing to stuff from previous books, so it be fun to mark the books with notes and make easy access to my favorite scenes. I’m not usually one to scribble in physical books, but I had this urge today.
(oh, now that I think about it, I have bought quite a few volumes of the manga in a recent bookwalker sale 
when will I have time to read those? doushiyou 
)
What does it look like when the option to look up disappears? If there’s problem with sync you could disconnect and stay offline while reading. It’s possible to do lookups with Takoboto app, it doesn’t need wifi.
What my lookup process looks like for reference
I mark the word(s) I want to look up (黒竜 in this example). I copy the word.
I open Takoboto dictionary app from the side of the screen. I hope your phone has this function too.
Paste. When I’m done, I click the little _ icon in the upper left corner, Takoboto gets minimized and goes back to the side of the screen.
Easy to open the dictionary and not too in the way.
This way I don’t have to fumble for radicals, I just copy the word I want to search up.
