Today was book club day. I caught up with the last two weeks of the ABBC and BBC for 可愛いだけじゃない式守さん and 気になってる人が男じゃなかった respectively, and actually overshot a little for Shikimori, so finished out next week’s bonus chapter as well (since I’m late in the week, technically it’s only 2 days early though!). Then I finished out the IBC reading of セーラー服と機関銃 that I started yesterday. Yesterday’s セーラー服と機関銃 was very challenging. Today’s was… comparatively not. It’s making my speed graph on Natively look interesting lol.
Not only was it faster, I felt a lot more confident about what I understood too. I wonder how much was this being basic dialogue with vocab I know, and how much was I was warmed up from doing

Aaah, I sadly am going to fail this challenge. 
I worked about a solid month of heavy overtime and didn’t have time for…anything really.
This one goes thru Feb, but usually people stick around for the month after.
I’ve decided my “remedial exam” is going to be finishing 本好き2 by EOM March. If I do that I’ll give myself a C- 
I’m only like 5% into it, so a little bit every day should get me there.

Welcome back! I never stress about keeping up with daily challenges, best just to remember you can always jump back on the train.
Also 本好き seems to be really popular around here haha, seems like everyone’s reading it.

Feb 27-28
February is so much less consistent than January. Just shows that spontaneous change doesn’t stick unless I put effort into it when it start waning. Unfortunately, I haven’t had focus available for reading. But anyway, yesterday I read the weekly Stoic quotes in my journal. I feel a bit like the deeper I dwell into Stoicism, the more I like the pop culture version of Stoicism. 
I also read a chapter of Komi-san. I’m still reading parts that was covered by the anime, but it was over 6 months since I watched it very casually, so I’m not bothered. Still using Komi-san as pure extensive reading, not looking up anything.
Today (so far), I have read about 30 pages of Alice 19th, finishing volume 2 (this is my intensive read). Apparently it took me roughly 40 min. So looking up every word and such that I’m not sure off, means each page took roughly 90 seconds to read. I haven’t actually ever checked how long pages take me to read, but I happened to check today. 
And I still love this manga as much as I did as a teen when I discovered and fell in love with it.
My dad always thought it was weird that I took off my glasses to read (I’m also nearsighted), but I also strain my eyes when I read with glasses on. It is kinda reassuring to know I’m not alone in this.

Words of the day
- 具に = in great details; with great care. In 粒 style.
- 歯切れが悪い = not making oneself clear. 歯切れの良い is clear articulation.
- 闊達 = open-minded; magnanimous. Allowing oneself to be 迂闊 or flaunting 闊歩.
- 一顧だにしない = not taking a slight notice of. Set phrase uses だにしない. Can be other variants, like 一顧をも与えない. First part is just like 一瞥.
- 感に堪えない = cannot bear the strong feeling
- 代わる代わる = in turns; one after another
- 色づく = to turn color, e.g. red of fallen leaves
or ripening of a fruit 
- 平べったい = flat. Like 平たい, but also with ぺったんこ.
- 克己心 = a spirit of self-restraint; the mental power to control oneself

I cannot remember when my last reading challenge update was, but I have two lil things to note on the reading front today!
- Finished 侵略！イカ娘 volume 2, finally! I do like this series quite a bit but it’s hard for me to binge it
- Started playing Tales of Hearts for the Nintendo DS - I found a copy of this game at my used game store and it wasn’t marked up like crazy like their jp games generally are. I’d been looking for something to bring with me on my trip next month, and this fits the bill. No issues so far, especially since it has a crazy amount of voice lines for a DS game
I’ve still been reading a bit every day, whether that’s in games, a few pages of manga, some twitter/pixiv stuff, and getting quite a bit of mileage out of trying to read along as mio has been playing persona 3 reload.
Listening challenge is still going very well, at 95.5/100 hours, and if I time it right I should finish it off today!

It’s my second manga in japanese and I’ve read it in 3 days 
(but it was a lot of hours of reading )
The story is really cute, and just now, i saw that volumes 2 and 3 are free for a limited time, so duty calls !

Just a tiny read on the train back home.
I know right, most people are used to the fact that adults of age 40+ (age-related farsightedness) need reading glasses for reading, so taking off one’s glasses sounds like it would have the opposite effect. But for those who are nearsighted like us, our eyes already have too much “plus” power which functions as reading glasses on their own and that’s why we need minus power to correct our distance vision.
(Currently in my second week of internship as a third year optometry student and trying to explain things in layman terms is almost like learning a new language, no joke.)

I read the first volume of 3 of this random old manga I found on mercari. It’s from the same guy who made some old stuff that is famous but I’d never heard of this one. It was a nice easy read where I didn’t have to look up much. Neat having rather old volumes on my shelf.
