OMG big things happened today!!! Today, I read the last two chapters from Aryn’s rescue, and thus completed my first story ever! 
Overall, I liked it a lot, and I believe I picked up quite a few kanji and vocab as well!
The next story Imma tackle is… well, the next story hehe, which will be Aryn’s wonderful world! The author rates this at N5+, so I believe it shouldn’t be too hard for me to read! 
Since it only has six chapters, it should’t take me too long as well!
(Also shame on me for not making a table again smh)

Such sad news today. The “Download” option from Kobo / Rakuten has been removed (they haven’t removed yet the article explaining how to use it and showing with pictures where it was). I was completely relying on that feature to tranform my books into epub and read them that way, I am not seeing myself being ready to read without Yomichan just yet. That means that I won’t be reading novels for a while after I’m done with 阪急電車 
(not that I don’t have plenty of manga / VNs to read instead but I just thought I was going to read more novels from now on). And no more making my own JPDB decks for the books either

Can you get in there through one of the other stores? I think I was able to get in through the us store or something last I checked
That said if they’re removing it from one store they’re probably going to nuke it from all of them. Bastards

One last hope I have that I haven’t tried yet is to have the books on my Kobo via the normal Kobo way and then get my Calibre plugin to grab them from there…

I still don’t know it that’s the last book. But I kinda hope so. I’d rather not have to wait for the next one to be released.

A quick poke around the mobile read forum doesn’t show anything. I’m not sure how many people have noticed yet but it seems like the sort of thing that community would be up in arms about it develop a workaround for asap

Yep seems like it’s a relatively new thing. And unlike manga people are less likely to start on a new book every second day 
Keep me posted if you spot anything! I’ll try to test my theory with my Kobo during the weekend

Looking at some older posts it may well be possible to transfer from Kobo desktop into calibur. Fingers crossed. I will try it out after CNY celebrations are done with
/Edit God if this necessitates a dive into the coding mines I’m going to be so pissed. Why do they want to fuck up a good thing for? I’m trying to give them my money…

Semi off topic rambling about reading while travelling
I’m going to Japan for the first time in March, and I’m trying to work out how thats going to interact with this challenge.
I still want to read every day, because I’m proud of my over-two-year streak and I don’t want to break it. 
But also, obviously I want to enjoy my trip and not stress myself out about reading streaks and end up spending too much time reading in hotel rooms!
Right now I’m thinking that I won’t aim to post every day, but I’ll try to keep some notes and maybe do a summary post once I’m back or something like that.
And I’ll be a bit looser about what I count as my daily reading - usually I only count reading manga or novels, or occasionally something like a news or wikipedia article if I dont have access to my usual reading materials for some reason.
But I need to decide what should count and what shouldn’t - I’m thinking that things like reading informational signs in a museum should count, but not “normal” stuff like menus, road signs etc.
Not that I think there is anything wrong with considering those things to be valid for the challenge - I just like to use the challenge as a reason to take some time to enjoy Japanese content, so I prefer not to count stuff like textbook work or any text I see from Japanese friends on social media etc.

I got something working, it’s a slightly more involved process but not too bad. Had to download via the Kobo Desktop app and point caliber + a plugin at that. Phew, I had all these toradora books I hadn’t converted yet…

That’s essentially what I do, except I use something other than Calibre.
It’s a method Rakuten/Kobo cannot remove unless they convert to a BookWalker style online-only.
(But let’s not give them any ideas.)
