📚📚 Read Every Day Challenge - Winter 2024 🎍☃🌲

January 25th!

Today I read about 4.5 pages of the Orange light novel.
I also had some reading comprehension homework to hand in to my tutor tomorrow, so I did that today too.

Read another chapter of the junior LN of 本好きの下剋上第一部1. An easier chapter than recent ones, which seems reflected in my reading speed. A new high for novel type content of… 0.26 pages per minute.

Ok, I’m not going to be reading these as easy as manga any time soon, but the trend is in the right direction.

Guestimation for Stake :vampire: since I’m reading it digitally yeah I just changed it to the number of pages displayed on the app. I’ll guestimate on natively

Conbini’s :fax: still trash lol, but it’s a mostly quick read at least

I read 15 Level N5 articles on Watanoc and 5 Level 1 stories.

Invasion day. Also a heatwave day… anyway.

Title Progress
ダンジョン飯2 0 → 15%
  • Started ダンジョン飯2. Decided to keep pace with the anime for my more intensive read. It’s still quite difficult, but at a lower pace I should be able to manage this alongside the Natively book club reads I think - the anime seems to cover roughly 2-3 chapters a week, which is doable (though I’m not sure about the beginner LN pace just yet). Only one chapter this morning with lookups, which covered half of this week’s episode; I’ll do the other chapter tomorrow.
  • Scanned another later volume of ダンジョン, vol 6. Things are popping off and I’m so excited to keep going even though I don’t fully understand everything.

  • ARIA - chapter 16
  • シャドーハウス - chapters 152 and 153, which finishes up volume 14 (and it was a great volume ending)! I’ll wait a while before continuing this series, since there’s currently just one more volume out.

Book Natively Progress Notes
:deciduous_tree::fox_face: ちいさな森のオオカミちゃん Lv 15 0% → 100% Finished :tada:

I’ve had this one sitting on my Bookwalker shelf since almost a year ago when the ABBC voted on it for their April '23 read-along. I was so excited to participate in my very first book club ever so I bought the first volume without doing a trial read :sob: And then as soon as I started reading I realized that it was way more of a laid-back cutesy vibe than I like in a story, so I closed the tab and never returned. But since I spent real human dollars on it I figured I might as well read it for one of my bingo categories this year, and, sure enough, it only took about 1.5 hours before I got to mark it for the “finished a volume in a day” category!

If you are looking to read your first manga and want a low-stakes cute story about friends and fun, “Wolf of the Small Forest” is perfect for that. The art is clean and nice, but the slice-of-life in a forest storyline was not really my speed (though it may be yours!)

a scenery panel i liked, no spoilers

See you next time (´・ᴗ・ ` )

Read a couple of samples yesterday to check out some of the recommendations. Today, I got back to Alice 19th, which I haven’t read for a few days, and as soon as I started reading I was “why haven’t I read this for days? Silly me, it is so much fun!”.

Also, did you guys know there is a maximum amount of items you can have in an Amazon order? Well, I learnt it is something like 85ish, I didn’t actually record down exactly how many. This is what happens when you try to buy multiple complete series and it counts each volume as one item. And I have a tip for you, if you are butting up towards the maximum and end up making two orders, try to even out the books so it isn’t so close to the max, Amazon’s website have a fit half the time it tries to display my almost-max order.

Can you tell I restrained myself all last year, not getting a book order from Japan only to go crazy now? Yeah? Yeah…

At least Basara in bunko format is only 16 volumes. I would have bought the tanko format if I could have. Ah well, smoll it is.

For this kind of out of print manga issue, maybe see if mandarake has it as a second hand set?

I went ahead and bought the bunko version. Hopefully it’ll be big enough.

another ouran chapter, every time i think it can’t get more formal it somehow does :sob: slow going but could’ve been harder, i guess. also finished the last chapter of sketchy vol 1 which was fine? it’s slow-paced but i’m open to reading more, plus it’s only six volumes so it’s nice and short. that didn’t take too long so i did some more pages of the bakumatsu book

today’s nhk article was this one, another granblue chapter (exposition, so much exposition), and the entries on の関係(かんけい)でand のこと in aDoIJG

words that stood out

桜蘭(おうらん)
(いた)れり()くせり - perfect, thorough, leaving nothing to be desired
藍色(あいいろ) - indigo blue
訪日(ほうにち) - visit to japan

スケッチー:
市販(しはん) - putting on the market, commercially available

This definitely needs an explanation or some photos :yum:

Exciting!! I was actually thinking of reading Basara sometime soon too. I didn’t know there was a bunko version.

Yup, these challenge tests are mostly motivation for the participants and not something with strict rules
