Read Alice 19th right before bed as have become my small custom right now. I’m not tracking pages or anything. I just read for as long as I feel like or until I get too tired.
Today I’ve read a couple of pages of Alice 19th so far while having a couple of short burst minutes to spare. Will probably read more later.
I traded one of my surplus modded wiis to a friend today for a nice combo vcr/dvd player, and so instead of doing anything productive, I cleaned up my desk and fiddled and tinkered with things for a… while My old DVD player I didn’t like using much because it would skip quite a bit even with clean disks, but this one is basically flawless! I kinda just had anime running all night with no subs while I messed with troubleshooting and color correction and remote setup and stuff, but I’m pretty happy with how it all turned out. It’s basically effortless to pop in a movie and have it running on the side while I work on my computer, and I can run audio through my headphones/desktop rather than using the bad mono speaker built into the TV now. That’s big news for my listening, but not so much for reading today Today’s choices were some AIR, the 1st episode of utena, the entirety of ハウルの動く城, and then a bit of 君の名は
Read:
とらドラ!- page 208 → 210, a small bite since it was already so late when I started reading
Analects - Book 4
Congrats!! even if it felt quick and you felt like you might’ve skipped over a lot, finishing that first volume of text stuff is such a big milestone!
Have you had Utena and Air since the 2000s? Or are they still selling new copies somewhere? I’m not surprised Miyazaki films are still obtainable, but Air especially seems somewhat forgotten these days.
I find a loooooooooooooooot of my stuff in second hand stores. Utena I picked up some japanese VHS tapes in a bundle on yahoo auctions last summer, but Air I actually found last weekend at a used bookstore, of all places!
I like the hunt, digging through bargain bins and thirft shop shelves, but it also means that some stuff ends up not being complete, or lots of stuff ends up in mismatched sets. Like for air, someone sold only disc 1 and 2 of 3 to this store, so I might have check ebay for that last disc. It also means sometimes you find extremely strange things, like that copy of shawn of the dead (the jp dub is extremely funny, btw.) This is also how I find some of the weird physical manga I read
I’m running dangerously low on shelf and storage space, so the next project might be building another dvd/manga shelf I’ve been kinda thinking about doing a big month of listening challenge like @Gorbit99 did last summer, and this certainly provides an opportunity for one (well, not now, but maybe in feb or march)
back to normal today, but took it a little slower in favour of listening practice and also cos i was sneezing a bunch and it was easier. first ouran chapter of vol 7 and it’s the ‘kyoua is a nice guy, really!’ chapter and yeah, no, not for me. i didn’t like him as a teenager and i definitely don’t now as an adult. ah well.
today’s nhk article was this one, another granblue chapter, and the entries on に代わって and に比べると in aDoIJG
words that stood out
桜蘭:
お忍び - travelling incognito (of a person of high rank)
門外不出 - (treasuring something) by never taking it off the premises
マンネリ - becoming stereotyped, becoming tedious, becoming routine
Not much to say, excepts that Harry finally knows that he is a 魔法使い! I’m glad for him, and for myself, that I manage to read it in Japanese and actually enjoy it.
奥日光 episodes 3 & 4 (trying to refrain from binging)
小さな森のオオカミちゃん chapter 7 + omake, finished volume 1, then chapters 8 & 9 from volume 2. I’d like to read more but I feel a migraine coming on.
Finished up the last few pages for this week’s ABBC reading, and also got through another chapter of 壁の穴.
Think I’ll go back and tackle a few more pages of Bluelock tomorrow since it’s been about a week now.
Had tried to read Chapter 22 of あなたも殺人犯になれる! with 0 lookups a few days ago… Well there was a lot of things I didn’t catch but that wasn’t unexpected haha. So today was a proper re-read, using all my clutches
Satori Reader repeat of Different with Chigau. Did go well, happy I pushed through with sticking with Satori Reader every day. Because it was very rewarding after not having the mood for it.
Yesterday I worked a 12h shift and fell asleep on the computer while trying to read late at night, so I only read 3 pages. Today I was able to read a bit more before bed, when I should have been sleeping instead
Chapter 4 of この美術部には問題がある! today - I enjoyed this chapter. I’ve found this manga a bit hit and miss so far, but if it continues more in this vein then that would be good.
January 11th!
After a several month hiatus because I wanted to focus my novel-reading efforts on コンビニ人間, I finally got back to reading the first volume of the Orange light novel. I read about 5 and a half pages, and it was nice to see how much more smoothly I could read it compared to when I was last reading it a few months ago.
Update: migraine went away so I looked at the link (hyah) that @macalys posted, and read this N3 article about planetariums in Tokyo. It was actually pretty easy, there were only a handful of words I had to look up. Tomorrow I’m gonna try an N2 one.
So after yesterday’s double finish and almost two hours of reading, a bit of a lighter pace today, as I caught up to the ABBC reading of 可愛いだけじゃない式守さん 1.
No, that’s not a typo, there is 6 chapters in 38 pages.
Read half of 僕の心のやばいやつ6 to finish out the volume. Might break from this for a bit, 3 volumes of this series in less than a week is a lot, and that last one was quite emotionally intense.
Unsure if I should take up another book before the Natively clubs start in late Jan… I could probably finish another kid’s book of around the same level, but it would be a bit full-on and I’m not sure I should keep my intensity at that rate for the moment. And I’m definitely not short on manga to read right now.
Another chapter (57) of スキップ・ビート. I might be slowing down my Japanese reading for the next little while because I want to devote some time to my books in English too.
