  We also finally meet Chika’s dad, who came to watch and had Chika’s old coach Minami-sensei explain stuff to him during the match. He’d watched some of his games before when Chika still lived in Tōkyō but never really understood any of it. Yuni thinks Chika seems jealous, since he used to have a crush on Minami-sensei and still kinda has one. So what if his dad and Minami-sensei did start dating lol I wonder what his reaction would be. Of course, everyone deals with losing their partner differently, so even if it’s been like 10 years since his wife died, I dunno if he’s moved on enough to date again (or ever will be), but assuming he is… it could be funny. (If Chika moves back in with his dad when he transfers to Keisei, then sometime in those last two years of high school would be the prime time for it.)

have finally finished case 4! it ran a little overlong for me (even taking the amount of time i spent on it into account) but wasn’t bad by any means. getting into the home stretch now, how will all of the threads come together?

today’s nhk article was this one, and today’s fate episode was one of ショー’s which ehhh. big men clean angrily, yakuza is giving me enough of this i really don’t need more speaking of, watched more y5, am now about to start shinada’s bit.

• ずしり(.) = (on-mim) heavy (actual weight; responsibility); with a thud
• 軸(じく)に = as the center
• 言(い)わずもがな = it goes without saying; it needn’t be said. ～もがな is like ～といいなあ, with negative like, あらずもがな or なくもがな.
• 追(お)い遣(や)る = to drive away. Just 追(お)い払(はら)う with やる.
• 受(う)け流(なが)す = to evade; to ignore / to parry
• 足(あし)を引(ひ)っ張(ぱ)る = to hold back; to stand in the way

Updating yesterday as well. As expected, the new schedule works better and I have more free time to do whatever, which might very well translate to more reading some days. I wanted to keep reading Muv-Luv today but I don’t want to go all in the first days of adaptation just in case. I’m really liking it so far, I’ve barely read like 20k characters in total but it’s already developing interestingly. I’ll try to read a bit of this every day regardless of clubs, if all keeps going well. I’m so grateful for working textractor hooks… hooking this one initially without a patch I found was hell. I’m so extremely grateful in general for the nice tools people make for them and others. Programming is cool.

8月21日：Read a story in ラストで君は「まさか! 」と言う 真夜中の動物園. There were a couple points where I lost track of who was speaking (the story involved a group of different dogs). Not bad overall.

8月22日：Read another story in ラストで君は「まさか! 」と言う 真夜中の動物園. This one involved red pandas. It was cute, but the ending was kind of bizarre (the author was probably going for comedic, though I can’t say I laughed).

78 pages of ダブルス, reading 3 – 3, 4 – 3, 4 – 4, 4 – 5, and 5 – 5, leaving off on pg 226. While it was funny, in the part I read yesterday, Kakeru going around to like half the team and even some of the girls’ team to ask for help with his volleys just so he wouldn’t have to ask Takuma, it’s nice today seeing them learn to get along and actually communicate, both on the court and off. And learn to trust each other! (Though that did start a bit before and was also nice to see, especially because the parallels.) And, more than that, Kakeru worrying over him! Even if it is more mother-henning and Takuma finds it annoying lol, but he wouldn’t worry if he didn’t care.

I’d wanted to read more today, at least get to the last chapter, but oh well. I was tired.

Is that not 家? When it’s read ち, I often see it in kana rather than kanji (and possibly because it’s shortened from the actual reading うち it tends to get furigana even in series with very little furi when it is in kanji), and granted I don’t know the context, but it seems to make more sense to be 家 following a dropped ん (technically merged into the ん from さん since you can’t have a double ん) than 地 following a dropped は or が

In contrast with the passive (られる), I felt like the description of the causative form (させる) was very clear and I really learned some new things in this section of the dictionary, which is quite pleasant. I also managed to keep up with my other reading goals. Today I’m planning to finish the remaining pages of あん, work a bit more on Tobira and maybe read a bit more of Ouran.

There are those times when you learn absolutely useless vocab because a story requires it. The novel I’m reading is very heavy-handed with nobility ranks which I mostly avoided because the author managed to convey who was higher in most cases without knowing the difference between 伯爵 / 子爵 / 公爵. Not this time, the protagonist decided he wanted to buy his way up and I suddenly came to the realization I know nothing about these. It was surprisingly enjoyable to read up on nobility ranks, and might be useful in the future considering how it seems every fantasy isekai at this point will use these same ranks.

Having trouble staying consistent with my manga reading because I’m dreading the approaching end of バガボンド and it’s been on hiatus for years probably not being continued ever which makes it all the worse.

I want to pick some sci-fi/cyberpunk manga next because I have a hobby writing and want some inspiration. I know however this is not the brightest idea by a long mile considering the niche vocab these would have. Upon browsing for options, though it turns out most sci-fi mangas are actually pre-2000s, there’s like a handful of popular stories which put the emphasis on proper cyberpunk themes, most are just space operas.

Decided I’d read 3 grammar points in aDoBJG every day and a minimum of 1 / max of 3 chapters of バガボンド every day for consistency’s-sake. I feel like it’s safer reading fewer pages every day than having large bumps followed by empty plateaus which I had while reading manga.

Also, I want to show off this shameful graph of me reading during my ~5 days of vacation (counting words) which reminds me just how much I could read if I had the time/dedication:

Since coming back from vacation my reading averages have bumped considerably. I’d have ~1k per day, these past 10 days I had only 1 day below 1k and I feel like I’m flipping pages much faster.
