Not sure if I’ll do this everyday, but I have a book about the traditional colours of Japan that I got awhile back and have been meaning to go through properly - but just never got around to it. But I want to go through the colours and sort them for Ukiyo-e projects.

Reading a paper book is a lot harder than just being able to copy-paste a unknown word, even more difficult when the kanji isn’t on WaniKani and I have to somehow navigate Jisho’s radical search feature… they all look so foreign compared to WK’s radicals, even if the are practically the same.

The last two parts about style was about the inversion of sentences (“Negation of X. Because Y.”) and some conventions of the written language I was not aware of yet. For example, if one were to write a thesis they would use だ or である! Now I really want to read a Japanese style guide for academic texts… Something for later.

Finally I was able to read a few more pages in this book. I am still way behind the bookclub though. Ah well, I hope I will catch up during the next weekend or so.
Today I read about the personal pronouns and the passive. It was really interesting. Espacially the pages about the passive. I have the feeling, that I already understand it better than before.

I also read one chapter in Conan. After reading happiness the last few days, it’s quite a change again to have to look up kanji/words on every page. But I guess only that way I am going to learn new stuff and can make progress.

• 四月は君の噓 ch 14 - This is definitely one of my favorite performances in the show, and even in the manga it’s super powerful. Obviously the show benefits from having actual music, like most adaptations of music stories (k-on, bocchi, sound euphonium, etc etc), but it’s shocking to me that even in the manga panels I can sometimes tell what part of the piece she is supposed to be playing.

I started reading the first light novel of Orange today.
Reading prose is still kind of intimidating for me, but I was pleasantly surprised with how much I was able to read smoothly without needing to look things up

I only got up to Page 14, but I’m really pleased that I plucked up the courage to get started with this.

I’ve been reading less in English again lately while reading Summer Cider, and that may continue for a while because I have bought. yet more books. Most of it is manga, which isn’t too bad, but I got a few novels, too. A BL one illustrated by Takarai Rihito, 花馨(かお)る雨の名を; a Miyabe Miyuki one that sounds fun, Stepfather Step, wherein a burglar gets reverse adopted by a pair of twin boys; and three 名探偵コナン novels. I’ll be trying to finish some manga I already have before those start getting here.

• 23 pages of サマーサイダー, finishing the book, and in only 10 days! It was very good (though I am a little sad actually that we never got anything from Megumi’s POV; I wanted to see inside his head too). I’m glad I took a chance on it. Now I wanna see if there are any other Kabei Yukako novels that interest me lol

チェンサーマン１３ (Ch 111-112) I want MORE. Waiting sucks. I don’t read ongoing series often, and never in Japanese, so this is a first for me. I did order volume 14 when it was released, but the shipping’s tracking says it won’t get here until Tuesday. Please come early.

Once I finish reading volume 14, I’m planning of trying to keep up with the series weekly in shonen jump+

I just looked into it and it seems perfectly possible. Like the US version of shonen jump, the latest chapters are free for a lot of series. You don’t even need an account to read them. So once I get caught up, I won’t have to pay anymore if I stay on top of it!

Interestingly, it’s not a monthly subscription like in the US, but a points system. 100JPY = 100 points and they get cheaper the more you buy just like in a mobile game or something. You use these points (usually 40) to rent a chapter of a manga. It looks like you get 48 hours to read each chapter (Thanks I hate it).

Giving them my email and creating an account gave me 100 free points. Annoyingly, with my timing, I’ll probably need to pay for three chapters. So I needed to add some points. I thought this would be impossible, but it actually took my US credit card! I had no problems at all!

FYI their mobile app was not available in the US, though I read somewhere you can get around this by installing it yourself without the app store. I haven’t tried this since I’d prefer to read on a computer anyways.

Komi-san v3 : a few chapters

I had high plans for yesterday, but when I sat down to read in Japanese my tablet (that I use for lookups) was charging, so couldn’t read Girl Friends. Therefore I read a few chapters in Komi-san instead. About halfway done with the volume. I will have to pick another easy read soon. xD

Also just watched the new trailer for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and OMG, I AM SO HYPE! Don’t be surprised if I miss reading in English for a couple of days after that releases. xD

I’ve been absolutely terrible about posting during this challenge. I had vacation days so I wasn’t around the computer much even though I read every day, so I haven’t said anything for like 10 days Mostly I’ve been doing short BU$TAFELLOWS sessions since I didn’t have much time for more so I’ll just try to pick up from here

Played BU$TAFELLOWS for 1h and did a tiny わたしの幸せな結婚 read to get back into it (32% → 34%).

Ah, I came across 被害 in my textbook as well, it means “damage”, so it makes sense. And the 被 from 被害、被告 is a prefix that “indicates the target of an activity” (according to Jisho), which I didn’t know. 面白い！

Reading on a tablet is a great idea! I was trying to figure out how to set it up recently. I set up a Japanese Amazon account but apparently my Kindle needs to have a Japanese address as well to deliver ebooks to my device (I live in Ireland). Do you have any advice on this?

Also, I am also super hyped for Tears of the Kingdom. Not sure if you follow Zeltik on YouTube, but he has some great breakdown videos of the trailers up to now. Not long to go!

I don’t actually read much on the tablet, I mostly use it as a look up device. xD As to your problem, you need a Japanese address to buy the books. This post explains how to get it to work: Access to Japanese kindle books on amazon - #3 by slerched

I decided to not even rewatch the latest trailer, to be as spoiler free as possible but still getting to watch the trailer. I saw some glimpses that have me excited and I’d rather wait to see if they turn out to be true.

I think this comes from trying to replay Breath of the Wild earlier this year but realizing I wasn’t having much fun, because the mystery/wonder was gone because I’d already found most everything (I didn’t 100% because there are too many korok seeds, but otherwise did pretty much everything else). So I want to preserve as much of that for the game while also getting in some of the hype!!!
