September 4th.
Today I re-read over the prologue for 大海原と大海原 along with my breakdown notes in order to populate the vocab sheet for the ABBC starting on the 11th, I added 61 vocab entries and I think got pretty good coverage. I remember how much vocab sheets helped me when reading my first manga, so hopefully this goes towards paying that forward.
Then I read the first 3 pages of chapter 1 for 大海原と大海原 (and added 15 vocab entries for ch.1).
This manga having an actual plot is super interesting, I’m excited to see where it goes =D

Day IV: 特定有害廃棄物等の輸出入等の規制に関する法律 
Ah, I see… it’s one of those “extremely long titled law articles that are full of kanji” again.
This is revenge for not reading you yesterday, isn’t it Wiki?
The good part is, there wasn’t a kanji here that I didn’t recognise, and could work out the meanings.
The correct readings however… let’s not ask about that part.

Day 4
Today I finally properly took the time to read and finished chapter 3 
This chapter had some difficult grammer, but the vocabulary was pretty fine. This is my first experience having an author where I sometimes need to read a while before I understand what’s going on 
The sentences just go on and on without stopping! And he writes dialogue at times with and other times without the quotations.

Day 3:
日本語: I read a lot of パノラマ島綺譚, some of スキップ・ビート, and a lot of ミステリと言う勿れ (finished v7).
Read-aloud: We read a chapter of ふしぎの国のバード.
中国語
中国語: I read 西安-成都. It uses 也 at the beginning of a sentence in a way I didn’t know you could do. My grammar reading afterward didn’t immediately make it clear why that’s okay here, unless the subject is being carried over from the previous sentence? I will put a pin in it in my mind and come back to it when I know more things.
I was feeling tired last night and almost reached for manga over a novel, but I do have a goal of reading >30min in a novel a day, even if I’ve been a little more forgiving with it since making it to my 2021 overall goal–anyway, the point is, I remembered this challenge and decided to push myself. 
The book was interesting and I ended up reading more than I thought I’d be up for with a tired brain.

Sept 4th: Today I managed to read 2 pages of 糞尿譚 - there were some parts that I had a hard time understanding who did what, so I spent ages trying to figure it out (an when I read it a final time, going with the flow of the language, it all fell into place 
). On top of that, it’s old and the author used a lot of unknown-to-me vocab, so looking stuff up is not that fast either. Let’s see if I can double the amount once more tomorrow

Today I read maybe 30 pages of 星と旅する volume 1, a little bit まいてつ visual novel and the text about speech styles in the tobira book. Lol everyday I want to read lots of japanese but I never manage to read as much as I would like to.

I mentioned in the other challenge how I wasn’t really feeling this series, that some episodes were very nice and some others were slightly boring, but these last ones are again pretty nice. I like the scenery and the place where part of it takes place, Yosemite Valley; perhaps because I feel more rested after the break, but I’m liking it more this time around.

What did I read?: ハイ☆スピード!

I read a lot longer than I thought I was going to today…my brain has been kind of unplugged the whole day, so I thought I would get through a page, maybe, at the most, but once I got started it wasn’t really that hard to keep going.
Chapter 2 starting off with a description of the town, which I loveeeee <3 Their town is so pretty, I love where they live. (I’m in love with the shrine-in-the-middle-of-a-residential-area aesthetic and this is, like, the epitome of that, plus ocean views - I mean, come on) It’s based on a real town, Iwami, which I would like to go to someday (but it’s hella out of the way, so I feel like I need to work on my nonexistent speaking skills first 
But they have little maps for the anime locations and everything definitely did not just get sidetracked for a ridiculous amount of time looking at the maps while I was writing this post whoops). Also in these first few pages we have the introduction of a character who to my knowledge is not in the anime 
Iiiiinteresting.
I just need to talk about this Haru moment for a quick sec
There’s this moment when Haru comes upon this new character, Aki, on his way to the swim club (Aki is in his class and goes to the swim club also, so he sort of knows her) and he’s like…she looks kinda upset, should I just go by without saying anything, should I call out to her, what do I do…and his first instinct is basically to look around like “where is Makoto, maybe he’ll know” That just…so relate. So love. My socially-challenged child <3
Favorite words/phrases from today:

Day 5
Today I read a smattering of a couple things.
First was chapter 4 (technically part 2, chapter 1) of 深夜特急. I just realized I never explained the premise! The book is a true recount of the authors travels. He’s a really relaxed traveller–a lot of lazing about while soaking up the atmosphere–and his style of writing is also pretty relaxing. I picked it up cause we can’t travel so much in Covid-times, and his book kinda scratches that itch. The first part was when he was in India. Part 2 is in Hong Kong.
But then today my Mother-in-law recommended another book, 手紙. So I picked that up and read the first couple of pages. 手紙 is less relaxing, and more emotional. After the older brother commits a crime and is sent to prison, where he writes to his younger brother every week. The younger brother won’t read the laters though, out of spite. Along the way they grow and change (though I don’t know how).
I feel like I might keep trying to read 手紙, cause it’s been a while since I’ve read drama .
Today I learned...
…the difference between 柵(さく) and 塀(へい)! 柵 is a fence you can see through/over and is often in public spaces. While 塀 is usually a tall fence, more or less solid, which can’t be seen past and is often around homes or private property.

September 5th read 2 more pages from chapter 1 of 大海原と大海原, added ~11 more entries to shared vocab sheet.
I wanted to read more, but I’m tired, I spent more of my energy today on WK since I’ve been falling behind (400 outstanding reviews >.>) so I’ve been trying to spend more time working through that since WK is the reason I’m able to even try read now

Just finished reading up volume 15 of Yotsuba. It did get a bit emotional near the end of it for her dad. This is also where I caught up to the where the series is atm, so I’m done reading Yotsuba atm. It’s been fun and in a sense unreal to read up on 18 years worth of Yotsuba in a relative short period of time. Luckily it is left in a good place, so even if this is it, I got a lot out of rereading it in Japanese.
I’ll be moving on to other series. Not sure if I’ll read the Avan manga or continue with polar bear cafe tomorrow.
