Not much reading today. Was watching first day of world chess championship
Finished short story 2 aaand didn’t feel like reading anymore. I kind of want to start book 5, but that’s a no-no. Just two more short stories.

Merry late christmas! Was pretty worn out from activities yesterday, so didn’t get in too much reading, just a few texty things
Read:
- 天声人語 12/26 - was about the 100th anniversary of a プラネタリウム, included a section from a 中島敦 poem at the end, so I spent a bit of time looking for it and learning about him
- 日本語を大切にする運動概要 | 日本語を守る会 - parts of this site of the organization that tried to sue the NHK for using too many loan katakana words rather than japanese words
- 縦書きと横書き - Wikipedia - parts of this page about writing direction, I was specifically looking for if there was a term for the older style of writing japanese horizontally, but right to left (which shows up in some period pieces depicting pre WWII japan), and the rather puzzling distinction between 1行1文字の縦書き and 右横書き
- skim read the first part of a manga about a BLソムリエ and found a very good reaction image

- My new eInk tablet finally arrived, so I spent an inordinate amount of time fussing around with that. But I still found some time to read a few pages of トナリはなにを食う人ぞ ほろよい 4 | L27 - the physical version, funnily enough, since I already had it on hand.

Words of the day (a little spoiler)
- 堂に入る = to be a master at. Thinking of fighting game, to enter the last room, meeting the last boss.
- 頭を垂れる = to bow one’s head in respect, humility
- 歯止めを掛ける = to apply brake. Stopping on the gears
perhaps. - 運転を見合わせる = to suspend operations (e.g. of trains). Also, 運転見合わせ.
- 顰蹙を買う = to displease; to be frowned upon. First Kanji can be seen in 顔を顰める and 眉を顰める, but the second Kanji is probably rare everywhere else.
- 険のある = harsh; sharp; piercing
- 裂帛の気合 = a piercing shout. First Kanji is from 切り裂く. Second Kanji is a way to write 衣 (絹). (not 錦?)
- 例のごとく = as usual
- 誤作動 = malfunction
- 遺構 = archeological structures. 遺物 + 遺構 = 遺跡.
- 文様 = pattern; design. Somehow similar to 模様 (which has other meanings).
- 摩訶不思議 = very mysterious. 摩訶 is Maha - Wikipedia.
- 祭祀 = religious services
- 祭政一致 = unity of Church and State. Deified ruler

It seemed like stake took a hard turn towards romance but then there was some intrigue so I’ll keep reading. Although I might wait until next year to start vol 2 since I mainly picked it up for bingo. There are so many book clubs I want to participate in that I will definitely need a better reading schedule.
Midnight Drastic is about a bar owner and yakuza prince (? what do you call the next in line?? “Young head” sounds weird in English and the old man still seems to be running the group). I picked this one up in Village Vanguard. I feel like they typically have a good selection in their BL (and other tbh) sections. I even saw a whole set of Saezuru available too. The characters look pretty similar to Jealousy’s but the positions are swapped and the bar owner is less crazy. The familiarity of the characters with each other is really pleasant to see/read, almost like the inner workings of a clock but more cuddly. Also nice, but for once, it seems the mangaka might not be a career 独身?

I didn’t feel like reading today because I was tired but I convinced myself to open Satori reader and I got pretty caught by the cute story. I feel I’m improving too, so it’s quite pleasant to keep reading this series.

. 吟 has a meaning of chanting poetry, other than close inspection (吟味). - 木工 = woodwork
. Also, 大工. (Barely visually different, but completely different readings.) - 構内 = (within) premises
- 所持金 = funds in hand
- 行く手を遮る = to obstruct one’s path. Also 行く手を阻む. Probably something like 立ちはだかる, but path rather than blocker.

Another chapter of Shadows House today, followed by just under 6 pages of コンビニ人間.
I’m busy tomorrow, but as long as nothing goes wrong on December 30th or 31st I think I can juuuuust about finish it

Got into short story 4, the last one! It’s smooth sailing from here, I’m sure 
There’s just a weird barrier for me when it comes to short stories. I hope I won’t have to read more of them in this series. They were enjoyable though, I must admit.

Kiki-Mimi Radio, 1 episode on Satori Reader
I spent a lot of time extracting html clickable files with Mokuro for 2 easy manga I think I might enjoy : 放課後、恋した。and 花野井くんと恋の病. If you’ve read them, please give me your opinion, I’d like to hear it !
I’d like to find easy light novels to read as well, but I don’t think I can manage so much text for now

Stake is starting to annoy me. I hate the trope of old vampire acts like a teenager
Midnight Drastic was mostly flashback this chapter featuring medical nonsense.
I thought I had heard of Conbini before, so I picked it up yesterday. It’s more awkward than I was expecting, but I think I’ll probably finish it since it’s a one-off. I might sell it back afterwards though, we’ll see.
JoJo I started re-reading in order to do a close reading and prep the vocab page a bit. I’ll probably try to keep at least 1 week ahead of the book club. I’m hoping to make things a bit different from a standard club by adding comprehension/reading questions. I’m hoping to help readers who don’t feel confident yet and also give readers food for thought. Araki’s not perfect but there are a lot of fans who seem to totally miss when he does something clever.
Also, it’s nice to see my reading back at a normal pace lol. If I can do 3 chapters and then some every day, I’ll definitely hit 100 volumes read next year.

Don’t they just say “young master”? If it’s like the aristocracy, the heir doesn’t receive the title until the previous master dies. Though, it is a bit clunky to have to describe the character as the yakuza young master. You could just say “yakuza heir” in that case.

- Read 羽山先生と寺野先生は付き合っている 1 | L22 on the new tablet to put it through its paces. Leaving aside an evaluation of the tablet, this is a pretty cute yuri story that just so happens to have a relatively explicit sex scene at the end, which is a choice… not a bad choice, per say, but it doesn’t quite match the vibes of the story up until that point.
