📚📚 Read every day challenge - Fall 2022 🍁🍂

8/12 3 pages おばちゃんたちのいるところ, 3 pages Cells at Work (finished week’s reading)

Now only behind on the novels - all manga up to date.

Tomorrow I’ll try to push on with おばちゃんたち but might also try to read a bit of 夜カフェ.

Card Captor Sakura volume 2 or Aria: the masterpiece volume 2 – progress report

Yesterday: Read up to page 196, finished chapter 15.
Today: Read up to page 208.

Only a few pages worth of progress today – still don’t have much time on my hands and being tired doesn’t help either.

Interesting to see that the Marsian Cats are not the only unusual looking animal in Neo Venezia as the winter bugs are apparently much bigger and fluffy compared to their earth counterparts.
I wouldn’t be surprised if our planet had a similarly big and fluffy insect species that I just haven’t read about yet. No, bumblebees don’t count, they’re not big enough; I’m talking about a Goliath-beetle-sized one. Given that insects represent the highest or among the highest(?) percentage in regards to all known species it’s not impossible.
Anyways, why am I even thinking this much about bugs right now? I need some sleep.

Word or expression of the day:

暖炉 - (だんろ) - fireplace

Honourable mention(s):
忽然 - (こつぜん) - sudden, abrupt

Just another quick update. I don’t really have anything interesting to add lately :joy: . My Anki 計画 is coming along nicely, I’m so ready for the flurry of reviews in a couple weeks  .

The VN is going good so far, I’m about 9 hours in and starting to like it a bit more than before. I don’t want to say much cause there are other people reading it :relieved: .

I managed to finish four books that I was reading at approximately the same time between last night and today, and now my desk is covered in a stack of bookmarks the size of which I’ve never seen. Something simply must be done to remedy this

Read:

Good Words

NHK
新型「しんがた」ー new type, new strain (新型コロナウイルス, almost surprised it took this long to see this)

ホリミヤ
卑怯「ひきょう」ー cowardly
痩せる「やせる」ー to lose weight
満腹「まんぷく」ー full stomach
組む「くむ」ー to link, to cross (here, 腕. looks like same phrase can mean both crossing one’s own arms and linking arms with another person)

Internet
モザイク ー pixelated obscuring in videos or pictures for censorship

Need some suggestions?

I, on the other hand, have so many books started (both JP and ENG) that I’ve started using notecards and old receipts as bookmarks, and I even just got a new one! (And I keep wanting to start even more books, help)

The nice thing about buying Japanese books is they seem to all come with a free bookmark plus usually the paper reorder-this-book tag that you can use in an emergency

I mostly buy manga though, and I’m not sure any of those have come with bookmarks? Well, except for the one 不機嫌なモノノケ庵 official fanbook, a.k.a. my most recent bookmark acquisition, although that’s not really a manga either. I should maybe start saving those paper tags when they come with one lol

叙述トリック短編集 , 31-37%
体育館の殺人, 53-63%

Today I read today’s advent reading, plus next week’s portion of 体育館の殺人 along with the audiobook. I’ve decided to postpone おいしいごはんが食べられますように until after Christmas, so that frees up a little time. The plan is to try and finish 体育館の殺人 before my Audible trial runs out, keeping careful notes of what is revealed when so as to hopefully be able to join the book club discussions without spoilers. I’m also considering leaving the last part with the solution to read with the club when the time comes. I’ll decide when I get to it.

One of my volumes of ホリミヤ came with this cute bookmark tucked inside that I’m too scared to use because I don’t want to accidentally bend it  Most of mine tend to be folded post-it notes, also as pictured. I’ve seen people use the obi strips as bookmarks, but i like to just tuck those in the back.

My 積読本 section could always use more books! Right now I’m looking for either easier light novels or children’s stories, mostly; I’m pretty set on manga at the moment. I’m aware of 夜カフェ and くまクマ熊ベア for stuff that’s way on the easy side, and was also looking at maybe the マジック・ツリーハウス series (I loved those books growing up, would be super nostalgic to get to read them again). But if you have any other suggestions for stuff around that n3 or lower n2 level that’s mainly text, I could always use more options!

Oh, that bookmark is cute. Aside from the 不機嫌なモノノケ庵 one, I only have plain 角川文庫 bookmarks from various novels I’ve bought. I hope I get some manga that come with one too, because I want more like this:

Finished 青ブタ10 last night. I am pretty burnt out after pushing hard to finish. This volume felt like a return to the first 7 volumes, but is definitely building to something bigger. I expect the next volume is gonna be the precursor to a big climax and the volume that comes out today will be the start of the climax and maybe one more volume to finish things off.

I am probably gonna wait a week or two before pushing through 11. While I can get through these volumes relatively quickly, the grind inevitably burns me out on the series. Which is fine, either I grind and take a break, or I read slowly and continue, it seems to take the same amount of time.

Someone recommended I check out 鹿の王 and reading a bit of it this morning it seems right at the border of plenty of new words but easy to follow. I already have books I need to get through before buying more though. I think I am gonna return to shield hero and just coast on that one for a bit.

December 8th!

Today I read a chapter of Mitsuboshi Colors. It was part one of a 2 chapter story arc so I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next

Omg you remembered! I don’t even know when did I mention that :joy: Yeah, I’m having so much fun studying anatomy, especially because the professor is so engaging and passionate about what he’s teaching. I’m a bit of a mess right now, but your reply is motivating me to get my stuff together, so thank you for sharing the video~ <3

HOLY COW I am tired. I was reading Shield Hero at a snail pace and couldn’t keep it together! x.x I need to just watch anime, read manga, or something else today. Holy cow.

Today was a bit more normal, just read a couple more chapters of ブルーロック! It was unexpectedly sad actually; the whole thing with 雪宮’s eyes really came out of left field and it’s rough, like no wonder he reacted that way when 潔 told him he couldn’t see reality  ouch. I’m very excited for the upcoming match though, lots of complicated character dynamics going on in that one :eyes:

I read the last 6 pages of ch 1 of 夜カフェ3巻.

I read 君に届け episode 6. Ohhh no, why do I feel like I remember Yano and Pin being love interests… This is a cute story, please don’t ruin it with teacher/student…

I reread LM stories 04-05. The fourth introduces a grammar point I encountered copying down the Tofugu 500 Sentences (I don’t remember which it was, but it wasn’t in the first 30, which are all I’ve translated so far) where も comes after a number for emphasis. It feels rather like the も in もない, so it’s easy to understand. I also translated the first story today.

I read my advent story and only on being asked about a summary did it hit me I’d just blithely misread 竈猫 as 亀猫 and taken for granted that かめ somehow became かま (which like, isn’t that much of stretch). And also that a tortoise shell cat must be 亀猫, right? Nope. It’s a 錆猫 (rust cat).

Anyways, I also read a couple more chapters of 黄金仮面 and I’m almost up to the point where I dropped the book last time. About ~40 pages away? So excited to see how the story develops. Also just digging how absolutely ridiculous the story is, now that I can appreciate it.
