Orange 
Second half of this week’s chapter. I feel like the story is picking up enough that it is gonna be hard to stop myself from reading ahead. But I won’t, also I’m behind on 夜カフェ. And I have other things in the pipe line too.
So no more Orange until new week, next Saturday.

I haven’t updated in a week. After my last update my mental energy and mood dropped heavily and I’ve needed some days of recovery until it got a bit better, didn’t feel like updating any of the challenges… But I’m gaining a bit more strength by the day and I’m back to a certain degree of the usual normalcy. These days I’ve been playing a bit more of FFXIV but nothing too crazy, and I stopped new Anki words completely until today that I could come back to Loopers again. I kept doing reviews though so that’s a win.
Gotta treat the body and mind right when needed, study be damned. I’m glad I can at least function and resume the study once more. Just sucks when out of the blue you get a week or more of awful energy levels, though I guess it’s nothing unusual in the wonderful world of anxiety and other fun stuff 
.

I didn’t get far because my clothes fell down in my closet and I had to fix them and go to bed late, but I liked reading the description of the main character and how she starts her mornings. I often get psyched out by walls of text, so I was pretty happy that I could understand most of it with no problem at all and that I already knew almost all of the kanji. Maybe this’ll be what gets me into reading non manga text…

Got back to my rereading of Chainsaw man because I can’t wait for the next episode and need my fix. Gonna probably finish volume 5 today since the pace I am going at is pretty quick. Chainsaw man gets faster and faster so in a couple days I expect to just finish everything (semi-joking).
Also really missed Final Fantasy VII remake and replayed the first level with my completed save. Had some issues with my monitor though so I guess that was enough for now. Will probably play Persona on the way home. Kind of just doing what I feel like doing with no real direction atm.

Been super busy with work and social stuff, but finally have some breathing room so read the Mystery Book club week 1 assignment. I’m not the biggest fan of the audiobook (it’s YouTube 朗読 quality…but I paid money for it 
) but the story seems interesting enough.
Tomorrow I’ll need to do the 死仮面 reading which will be a bit more involved. ~50 pages might not happen all in one night given my schedule lately

One full month of the challenge down!
I ended up helping a friend move some stuff yesterday, and was too busy to do any more reading. BUT! I was rewarded for my help with one of their old shelves, so I spent a bit of time re-organizing my room and transferring stuff to the new one. I live in a tiny lil 150 sqft (~14 sq m) room so any way to store more stuff vertically is huge
Look at all that potential space, just begging to be filled
There’s some organizing to be done still, but it’s already a big step up
Now then, I think it’s time.
Read よつばと！chapters 101, 102, 103, and 104, finishing volume 15. It’s done, and just in time for the end of the month! I cried a little bit in chapter 104 as dad had his flashback. I have a lot of thoughts about this series as a whole, but I need to settle down a little bit and think on it. But for now, I think it combines some of my favorite themes in slice of life all into one wonderful little bundle, and is probably as close to a perfect 癒し系 or 日常系 manga as I’ve ever read. You get the wonderful environments and child-like gaze of a series like のんのんびより, combined with bits of the adoptive parent elements in 小林さん and カンナちゃん’s relationship in 小林さんちのメイドラゴン (which, I think, is probably one of the best parts of the series). Throw in some of the found family elements I loved in 3月のリオン and 混ぜる until you have a perfect bowl of green-haired goodness.
I’ve decided to leave the rest of the chapters for when volume 16 comes out, I think future me will thank current me for this treat.

Had a day off after many days of having stuff to do, so spent a lot of time reading.
31/10 20 pages Tugumi - finished the book! 9 pages Spy Family
I think Tugumi is the first book aimed at adults rather than children that I’ve completed (I may be wrong on that). It was tough reading but I’m glad I read it.
I’m now slightly behind on several book clubs, but at least still on this week’s readings. Next week should possibly be better to catch up so falling behind a little doesn’t matter.

夜カフェ２ 
Half of chapter 10 read today. Still pretty early so maybe I’ll read more, maybe I won’t. So I might as well post now.
8 days missed in October. Although one of them I read English book at least. There are definitely some things I’m reading that I would start counting as just regular reading. Those were I don’t have to look up much. 耳をすませば counted there. So does Orange now that I’m on volume 4 and don’t need to look up much.
夜カフェ is easy grammar-wise, but there are a lot of lookups I do still. A few too many to not fall on the effort side.
In October, I read and finished volume 2 and 3 of Orange. I read the main story of 耳をすませば but still need to read the sequel story to feel like I’ve completed the volume. I caught up with Orange and 夜カフェ (even if I’m technically half a chapter behind, but that will be fixed tomorrow).
I hope to miss a fewer days next month, but my expectation is that I will miss some. I’d also like to do more regular/English reading outside Japanese reading. There are far too many books I want to read during my life for me to slack so much on reading.

And in the blink of an eye, October is almost Octover. Haven’t been reading much this past week and a half or so (and I’ve been on my computer even less, so no updates), partly because I’m tired from work and partly because I’ve been reading more in English again, managing about 150 pages a day on those days that I read, which isn’t anywhere near my usual pace of old, but still good. I may even finish the one I’m currently on today! Thank goodness though that I wrote stuff down in my notes app, so I can still give a proper update for the past nine days.

I’m afraid the only reading I did was some song lyrics, trying to see how much I can understand on my own.
Oh, and two people came into the doughnut shop today wearing apparel with Japanese text on it. The first was a preteen girl in a hoodie that said “かっこういい” and then right underneath it “大好きです.” Normal enough. But the second was a young woman in a tee that at the top said “赤ちゃんを泣き,” and then below the image, “love yourself” (I’m pretty sure; I didn’t see all of that line). That… that is nonsense, right. Even if it’s the literary method of using the stem as a connective form, 泣く is still intransitive. And grammar aside… “Cry a baby and love yourself”??? That shirt makes my head hurt…

Only did Satori Reader this past weekend. I got hooked on a book in English and spent most of yesterday devouring it. I should be done with it today. I want to participate in the 人間椅子 club, but I don’t know if I’ll have time to get through the whole story. I’ll update later on whether I did or not, though!

This one is short and said to be 27 pages on Bookwalker. The first time I saw it via a link to Aozora Bunko, I figured that it would be too hard. Today, I checked it out again from the book club and saw a link to Bookwalker, as a free e-book. I was curious to how difficult it would be on Bookwalker version.
Actually, it’s the same, the same difficulty; only that reading on a tablet is convenient, and looking up in a dictionary isn’t so bad…
It is readable to me, although a little odd and difficult. But interesting, yes. I will check my understanding with the club later.

Today I read 人間椅子 as part of the 人間椅子 reading thread, a tad smoother reading than Wagahai but it still took me a long time to get through it all, but I wanted to try and finish it even if my brain is exhausted now.
Also read like two sentences of Wagahai because I almost forgot it was human chair reading day.
