Snape kills Dumbledore
Nifty
Just a small comment, I feel this poll and the one about having an initial slower pace should be referenced in the first post, so that they are easier to access. I’m afraid people might miss them.
With respect to the actual pace, while I can understand the following argument:
the premice of this book club was that it was supposed to be “advanced” in thus
Which would mean at least 16 pages per week if we are pedentic. Rounding up to 20 feels more satisfying, though. My impression was that we would go fast, but still help people who are going at a slower pace. In that context, I don’t really see a reason to go particularly slow. Of course, you do want a reasonable number of people to follow with the intended pace, but then you don’t have to go slower than 25 pages per week, considering the current votes.
Just to check, I didn’t say anything spoiler-ish, right? I mean, I think I didn’t, but I’m kind of good at doubting myself when it comes to stuff like that.
You mentioned that a character will be introduced later but without any specifics, so that’s pretty minor. There are some other people throwing some massive spoilers around, though. They know who they are.
I think we will be okay with a fast paced rythm (+20 pages) as long as we do a few test weeks as proposed earlier. After that, we will also find if we’re really able to maintain this pace or if we should up it, and also if anyone can’t keep up with it for any reason. So I don’t think this deserves more arguing (even if I know we’re just hearing each others and not really arguing)
So I reread my previous comments, while I didn’t really think of it as a spoiler when I posted it, it might have been if you really never heard of the character, and I’m sorry if it was, will be more careful from now
I’m fine either way. It’s just that it seems way more timid than the OP seemed to be going for. I feel the first post should be updated to reflect that mindset. In particular, I feel it’s fine if it just says that the book is challeging, so that the club will be somewhat harder to follow than the intermediate book club, no need to stress anything about the pace. (Then there’s no discrepency with the rest)
(Sorry if this is splitting hairs…)
Just based on what I remember from several years ago though, so who knows what I’ll think when reading the books now
I indeed do not know who Crush or Betty are.
I actually do not know anything about this book beyond the first couple of pages.
Last thing I read, the main character was rescued from thugs by some noble girl who got some of her stuff stolen.
Is it really a spoiler if you just drop a name without giving any indication as to what role they play or what kind of character they are? I mean, idk I don’t do book clubs irl or anything.
Edit:
nevermind you dropped some spoilers @Killua69100
sighs
Look, I do get him/her. Thing is, you can never be considerate enough of other people, especially regarding such things. So I really would prefer if we take it a rule to spoiler tag anything REMOTELY spoiler-ish. That way we’re safer.
It would be better if we avoid a long and unnecessary conversation about what is a spoiler and what is not. They never end in a mutual agreement
Oh no, I definitely agree looking back at the thread. I can tell my brain is off this morning.
I need covfefe or something.
Thank you @Ditto20 @mrahhal @Killua69100 @Raionus
On a different topic, that smiley is not what I picture when I think hug
Not a real spoiler. I think we should translate the book into Chinese at a pace of 400 pages an hour.
Oh, also @Naphthalene, I think originally we wanted to go pretty fast, but then more/a wider range of people were interested than we had imagined so that sort of shifted course a bit. Probably a fair idea to make that change of course clear like Napht is suggesting, @icefang97.
As an aside, faster people can still read faster if they want (I intend to) without bothering anyone else. Just have to include clearly labeled spoilers if you are talking about later sections to keep the peace.

Well…
At first when I started this bookclub people said they wanted it to be a advanced bookclub and needed it to be fast paced. Then, people wanted it to be slow paced. I’m kinda between a rock and a hard place guys. Since I’m the one managing the bookclub(since no one objected or proposed themselves) I will now be settling that matter so it will be clear to all.
I have been reading all your comments carefully to try to please as many people as possible and to get your opinions. There is a clear cut in opinion between the two groups. To try to please the biggest number of persons I have taken the decision to keep the original idea to make it an advanced reading group. If voted, we will have a 1-2 weeks test drive of 20 per weeks then go to 35 pages per week that have been voted. Here are my reason,
1-This was the original goal of this book club.
2-The test drive, if voted yes. will allow everyone to get used to the vocab, style of writing, etc…
3-Re zero is not an easy book so you should have that in mind.
4-There are plenty of other lower level bookclub with plenty of interesting books and people if you are looking for easier things. But not a harder one
5-You are not forced to follow the pace if you can’t. The discussion will all stay open.
6-You can always go faster if it’s too slow.
For those who are wondering, we can always increase the pace if the needs arise. If there are enough interested people, we will increase the pace for Re-Zero two with not test drive.
I’m sorry for everyone that is not satisfied with the direction this book club is going but I had to make a decision or we were going nowhere. Don’t worry though, like I said above no one forces you to keep the pace if you can’t. You can always ask questions and come to the reading aloud. We won’t refuse anyone but be aware that this might be difficult for those who are not used to reading Japanese.
If you have any question don’t hesitate to ask. I will now update the OP.
Here is a poll since maybe the pace, starting date and way of doing was not clear to everyone. Please give me your decision after carefuly reading what I wrote above and thanks for reading my super long post. I hope you will not be discouraged by it.

Based on my limited experience of helping with the intermediate book club, I can say that managing those things is very hard. I think you are doing great!
Thanks for the support. I really mean it I think it is important to please everyone but we can’t drag everyone down or up. As long as everything is clearly explained and that everyone was able to explain their point of view before making a decision.
Edit: We can’t take too long because people will be too much confused at some point.
Thank you for explaining everything super clearly and for running this club in the first place!
An increased pace should be fine, the only reason I voted 20 in the poll is because I know that my work can be all-consuming…BUT 35 should be fine since my plan is to read a little before bed anyway. If I get caught up in deadlines then I’m sure I can catch up at some point.
Even though I know nothing about the plot or characters, I’m super excited to start! Maybe I should watch the anime first?
