This is my (for now) semi-weekly level up post.
With these short levels, I feel like I’m riding a rocket. I haven’t cracked yet. So far.
@OmukaiAndi, Hey buddy, I was just looking back at the Level 29 kanji, and… I’m amazed at how few I remember. I’m a couple weeks away from burning them, so I imagine I’ll have limited success when that time comes. All that to say that, yes, long term memorization is challenging. But the point of this little exercise (I mean WK) is to challenge our memories and have things repeated until we finally do memorize them.
Of course you know what’s best for you. I’m just a little concerned for you since you’ve mentioned that you’ve gotten so far with WK in the past and then reset (was it a couple times?), so I wonder if your current frustration isn’t a mental block that you need to push past.
Having said that, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with slowing down, though I don’t know if burning everything you have now is the way to go. What helped me when I was feeling overwhelmed and unable to memorize a while ago, was to A) not worry if I got things wrong, but B) after a review session, really test myself again on the ones I just got wrong, so that I’d at least (probably) get them right the next time they came up. That helped me feel like I was making progress again.
Anyway, sorry if I’m intruding. I don’t wish to be pushy. You’ve made great progress so far, and it’s completely up to you whether to continue or take a break. Good luck in any case!
nah, it’s absolutely appreciated. i since leveled to 31 and started on the radicals, but didn’t touch the kanji yet.
it’s a huge number of things we’re tackling here, i believe my problem is only temporary, but i have to deal with it anyway. all the stuff i burned in the past is still healthy i think, but these new ones, starting at lvl 27, are still shaky even now, and that worries me, because why go through this if the result is a 50% recall a year after i burned something?
for now, i’ll just keep going and see if some of these problems evaporatorate by themselves.
i reset once after i returned from a 3yr break, from 24 to 20, no big deal. don’t worry, i’m not notorious for starting over all the time just trying to figure out a good way to handle it all. my goal is lvl 40 by April
You’ll be fine. I don’t take the idea of “burned” that seriously. Not if it’s only nine exposures to a given kanji in one year. I think it takes something more than that for something to be truly burned into your brain.
Not to say that any of this is a waste. It’s a great foundation and I think every time you learn something anew you’re more likely to remember it the next time. My advice to myself is always to read more, because in context is when I really cement things.
@Ninkastmin Belated congratulations ! I took time off the forum these last weeks (and of leveling up ). Well done!!! How does it feel up there?
Why have you forsaken me? :c
Thank you so much! Well, it feels… caky? haha, it feels good because i could finally take my first step in the japanese path to fluency
Hey, you’re almost there. I expect to see you soon
Currently Mikael is in the lead, but we’ll see for how long! Let’s all eat the cake, yall!
I just checked on wkstat and… my average lv up speed is 9 days 1 hour. Kiiinda slow lmao
Mine is 23 days, 18 hours. I just put there the speed I’m currently going at .
Just checking in since this thread is a little quiet lately. I’m now on level 50, the last level of Paradise, which feels like it should be a milestone. But mostly I’m feeling busy busy busy. Trying to blast through the last levels of WK at speed means that more and more of my time is taken up by WK. But hey, at least my Apprentice items are below 200 (and that’s only because I have 117 lessons waiting for me).
See you in a couple days for an introduction to Reality.
Yeees I’m editing my progress regularly but I don’t post here so much. This group helps a lot for staying motivated to level up faster though.
Only 10 levels more for you!! Whooo!
Most of the top frequent posters (let’s say those who put more than 50 messages in) are already level 60 and thus less likely to post in here…

Pleasure to race with you all.
I never left, I’m silently
judging supporting everyone and saving cake for you.
I see😂 I’ll try to be a bit more active too. Post everytime I level up maybe.
This time the leveling up went smoothly but last time I couldn’t get the kanji in my memory lol
still takes some time, but i hope to finish mid of march. as i have some exams the next 2 weeks, i might slow down for a couple of days.
@ulisan it looks like you aren’t registered at the top of this thread with any team, but nevertheless you’re racing with the best of them. Looking at your level, you and I may finish at around the same time. And of course you’re always welcome to join the Naughty Narwhals even if you are ahead of me!
never been big on 0/0, since i’ve always been chopping my lesson blocks in pieces, and right now i have a big chunk of untouched lessons… but my reviews are clean.
I like keeping 0/0, but that hasn’t been possible because of the gruelling pace of 3.5 day levels lately. Or perhaps that I waste too much time on the forums… I just levelled up to 51 and I’m at 149/115. I’ll at least get the reviews down to 0 in a few hours. But first I have to get ready to go to work.
I like the 0/0 too but I wonder if it’s going to happen again before I hit 60. Now 0/384 Level 48.
